Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Hopes To Set Return Fight in August, September or October

Sergio Maritnez has remained retired since suffering a stoppage loss to Miguel Cotto in 2014. As BoxingScene.com reported a few weeks back, that's all about to change. The 45-year-old former middleweight kingpin is seriously kicking around the idea of a comeback.

His knees were jelly against Miguel Cotto 6 years ago. He is now 45 years old. Nobody wants to see this chit. He was able to reign for a couple of years in a weak era of the Middleweight division. He has nothing to prove and would get hurt coming back trying to fight anyone relevant.

Prime Martinez beats every current mw champion from wbc franchise on down to wba regular. The current version of Martinez would get destroyed by a Gabe rosado type of opponent. Just stay retired.

Think it's time to create a senior circuit for older, retired fighters who still have the itch to fight. Put Martinez in against Margarito in a rematch, or even Martinez against DeLaHoya. But not Martinez against a younger more active fighter.

Totally against his comeback, but Martinez vs DeLaHoya got me thinking......

Tyson once said "everyone has a plan until they get hit". It will take a younger fighter to crack Martinez upside his head hard and **** that body around before he realizes that he made a colossal mistake in re-entering the ring. He has that itch and his trainer should put him in a closed door sparring match with a young fighter in his prime and pay that fighter to beat the hell out of Martinez for 3-4 rounds and I think that would do the trick. If that doesn't then unfortunately you must "feed him to the wolves".
