Comments Thread For: Tyson Fury Not Convinced Anthony Joshua Will Reach The Unification

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is not confident that a unification will actually come off with WBO, WBA, IBO, IBF champion Anthony Joshua. A few weeks ago, the two boxers reached an understanding on the financial terms for a two-fight agreement in 2021.

You've both got to win your fights yet..

If Fury is suggesting AJ will HAVE to fight both Pulev and Usyk then that gives him time to fight Wilder and Whyte...

At this rate they probably won't even fight each other once next year.

I don't understand talk of mandatories being an obstacle to unification.

Doesn't unification normally get priority over mandos?

There's so many belts it would be impossible to ever take care of all mandos ?

Well the only fight that HAS to happen is Fury vs Wilder 3, since there's a contract signed and in place.

Joshuas mandatories can be postponed for a Unification fight, but since Fury will be fighting Wilder Joshua will have to fight his first mandatory which is Pulev.

Usyks shot would only come into play first if Fury and Joshua couldn't agree terms basically.

I've got a feeling Usyk will end up getting his "big shot" as a vacant title fight vs some bum as after the first AJ vs Fury fight the sanctioning bodies won't all go for a second fight between them so one or two belts will be stripped off the winner.

Sound like he's ready to loose to wilder like a staged fight

Just make sure he fights Whyte before The Superior One.

In the same interview he says there’s no way Wilder can win ,at the end he says he could get knocked out . Give Fury a good time to answer questions and you have opposite statements that contradict one another , really his interviews are a waste of time because he contradicts just about every point you don’t get genuine responses and if we do we are left guessing which ones ?

This is Most likely scenario imo.

Find the unified boxer and get the division back up and running.

It’s at the sanctioning body’s discretion. In normal circumstances, yes, they allow a unification to trump a mandatory, but this isn’t a normal circumstance; Whyte has been messed around for too long and is threatening legal action and Usyk is a former WBO Super champion who’s moved up, he has more rights than an average mandatory.

If there wasn’t a contracted trilogy fight with Wilder and Usyk hadn’t activated his mandatory status then I think the WBC and IBF would have agreed to the unification, then sort out who gets the first mandatory shot afterwards.
