Of course. That was one of the better fights on the schedule.

Another day, another main event lost for ESPN and Top Rank. This time, it was Eleider Alvarez who withdrew Wednesday from his 12-round light heavyweight fight against Joe Smith Jr. Alvarez and Smith were supposed to meet in a WBO 175-pound elimination match July 16 in Las Vegas, but the Montreal-based Alvarez suffered a shoulder injury while training.

Was looking forward to this one I had Alvarez winning a decision because they are both durable but I think Alvarez is the better boxer he seems to always be getting injured though and he's not getting any younger.

Every time there's no buzz for a fight and maybe tickets aren't selling, someone gets an "injury" or comes down with COVID. I'm not sure I believe it anymore. I think maybe more likely, ever since all the May-Pac and Canelo-GGG bull****, even Kovalev-Ward, fans have given up on the sport completely and just aren't going to buy tickets to fights anymore outside of the few remaining guys fans care about or believe are legit, like Pacquiao and Loma. Whether that belief is misplaced or not is another story.

I think boxing is basically just dying. The good matchups rarely happen, and even when they do, they're not good shows, and it's mostly pretty boring. There just isn't a lot of integrity OR entertainment left in boxing, or UFC for that matter. But boxing ticket sales seem to be taking the real hit, at least outside of the UK. Guess after Americans wised up, they went to the UK and found enough inexperienced naive suckers there to sell tickets to mostly disappointing events. But they will probably wise up pretty soon too.

Anyway, as for the US, Im not sure I buy the reasons for most of these "fight" cancellations. I just think fans arent interested and they dont want to lose money so they cancel the events.
