  • Comments Thread For: Arum Defends Viewership Numbers For Top Rank's ESPN Shows In June

Bob Arum isn't as disappointed as some people invested in boxing over viewership figures from the shows his promotional company has provided ESPN during the past two weeks. With few live sporting events televised this month due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many industry insiders expected ESPN's viewership to be higher for boxing shows the network has aired live on Tuesday nights and Thursday nights since June 9 from MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas. More people are home during the pandemic, which theoretically expands ESPN's viewership potential, but boxing fans' most common complaint has been the quality of fights ESPN has aired in its four telecasts thus far.

With fighters either not ready, not willing to take a pay cut and not willing to fight in front of no fans the numbers are pretty reasonable to say the line ups are relatively poor.. what did people expect?

Bottom line is that the American Sports Fan will watch UFC prospects, but not Boxing prospects! They will only watch championship level Boxing! That's a big problem!

The reality is that tv viewers don't care to watch unknown boxers on tv. The moment it comes on they change the channel to see what else is on. Same thing with this fight happening tonight. Top Rank did not do a good job in promoting this fight with Moloney and Franco. They show clips of other fighters (Loma, Crawford, Lopez) and then a brief clip of Moloney but nothing of Franco. Also, did they bother to reveal the numbers with Navarrete and Lopez? Nope. Probably cause the numbers were much lower than the second card. It's embarrassing to say the least.

As a avid viewer of pretty much all the boxing matches I can manage to squeeze in my day the 2 a week cards are fun to watch. It's sad that they aren't bigger better fights but so be it. Some of the fights have actually been good fights and its giving the no namers a better chance for success. I'm just curious why Fox and Showtime aren't trying to compete.

Bobby is full of excuses. No one is watching because the match ups are absolutely garbage. I don't know why ESPN puts up with Bob and his subpar cards filled with mismatches? Truth is, because of no live gates, the only revenue stream is put up by ESPN and Bobby wants to keep most of that money.

Unlike POTUS and some of the chumps who post here, I don’t care about ratings!

                Glad there’s still boxing around

Bottom line is that the UFC blows away in-house Top Rank. Uncle Dana owns Grandpa Bob.

                    The day of the dinosaur

In my humble opinion the day of the dinosaur is done. You can’t continue to feed me manure through a straw when there are so many options. In this digital age I can simply go to YouTube and watch a fight I’ve heard about that I’ve never watched. The build it and they will come era is over. These fights are not intriguing nor interesting when I watch them. I am a die hard fan and honestly my self induced ADHD kicks in when I hear Crawford will fight Spence or Pacquiao or whomever. The best fighting best does not mean a fighter fighting a the best fighter a few tiers below. Arum is on his way out... hate on PBC if you will but Spence fought Porter, Thurman fought Porter and Danny etc etc...Crawford well we may never know... it took years for Floyd and PacMan, ... with that said I am the guy who’d pay for these 69.99 PPV fights etc, no with this horse ****, I simply switch the channel... Boxing is entertainment Bob....so when you ask “Are you not entertained”.... no I’m not
