British Boxing Board of Control recommendation on return to sparring during COVID-19 pandemic.

The British Boxing Board of Control has the following advice for Licence Holders who have returned to training and are considering sparring.

All Licence Holders should continue to follow Government advice relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All Licence Holders should adhere to Government rules on social distancing when travelling to and from the training venue.

Ideally training should take place outdoors. If this is not possible and training is taking place indoors please ensure there is good ventilation.

The BBBofC advise that high standards of personal hygiene are maintained throughout the gym.

While sparring is taking place the BBBofC recommend that all other individuals in the gym keep a minimum of 2 metres back from the ring apron.

Individual’s boxing equipment should not be shared and general gym equipment sharing should be minimised or avoided wherever possible. Please clean all equipment after individual use. Keep your water bottle and towel clean and don't share with others.

During pad work we advise that the trainer uses appropriate personal protective equipment (fluid resistant face mask, full face visor and latex free disposable gloves).

As the UK moves to the next phase of response to the COVID-19 pandemic the British Boxing Board of Control has the following advice for Licence Holders considering returning to training.

We understand that aspects of training result in time spent by two individuals within a 2-metre distance of one another. We recommend that this time is kept to a minimum and during close contact training (pad work) we advise that the trainer uses appropriate personal protective equipment (fluid resistant face mask, full face visor and latex free disposable gloves.
Should a known, suspected or contact case of COVID-19 be identified in the gym the individual/s in question should self-isolate and follow Public Health guidelines.

            Ring, rules, and equipment

Because there is no universally accepted world ruling body for professional boxing, each country has its own set of rules, and in the United States there are different rules in different states. Generally bouts take place in a “ring” that is 18 to 22 feet (5.5 to 6.7 metres) square and surrounded by four strands of rope. Professional bouts may be scheduled to last from 4 to 12 rounds of three minutes’ duration, though two-minute rounds are commonly used in women’s bouts and in some bouts held in Great Britain. Since the late 1920s, professional championship bouts traditionally lasted 15 rounds, but by the late 1980s the WBC, WBA, and IBF championships were all being scheduled for 12 rounds.

Same dude. At this point, we can't get picky. Any boxing is good boxing. Despite that, I have been pissed at the lack of quality in the matches but you never know what you are going to get. Sometimes a bout you didn't expect much from can wow you.
