Comments Thread For: Andre Ward: A lot of Froch's Big Fights Could Have Easily Gone Other Way!

During a recent interview, former two division unified champion Andre Ward gave his take on the career of Carl Froch. Back in 2011, Ward won a twelve round decision over Froch in the final bout of the World Boxing Super Series super middleweight round-robin tournament. Ever since their clash, the two boxers have often traded words in the media.

Froch did take too many punchers but gave lots too but this is what separates him from the great fighters such as Calzhage and Ward at the weight. Froch was well beaten by Ward and never wanted the rematch.

Ward and Calzhage would have been an exceptional pick em fight but one that was unfortunately in a slightly different time span with Joe winding down and Ward coming through.

I Wouldn't use the the word 'over achiever' although there's a few boxers who you think should have done better.

Ward should also know that. He's had some who could have put up a better fight and Froch should have done better when fighting him, on the night he didn't, that's boxing..

Froch will inevitably say something in reply, the media will make sure they give him that platform....

I think Froch maximised his career and his earnings and is proof that fortune favors the brave. Take Mack and maybe a past prime Johnson out of the equation and his last dozen fights were highly competitive. Though he should have perhaps relinquished the belts sooner instead of waiting to be stripped.

There's no shame in losing to Ward though. But to jump straight in again at World level and destroy an unbeaten champion in Bute is a credit to him. He always represented good value for me.

Just a bit of a shame he lets himself down with a lot of unnecessary talk because he had such a fan friendly way of fighting. Maybe not one for the purists, but certainly pleased the Rocky fans out there with his all action style and granite whiskers.

Hmm. Froch wasn´t a great boxer but he was a great fighter.

              Ward wasn't athletic either..

Ward wasn't athletic either. Ward's qualities, like Froch, are also intangible. Ward had better coaching and from that, he understood the game more. I don't know if any fighter would be an intelligent fighter without having a good coach and also being a good student.

He was clever, very physically strong, and had a good grappling game. David Haye was talking about how grappling knowledge helped him beat Chisora. Clinching is exhausted, pumps blood in your arms. Ward was like a much better Girfranco Rossi.
