Dumbest thing was making the main a non title fight

It's a start. I think the numbers should improve with the regularity of the broadcasts -- it was only really by luck that I caught the main event because I happened to hit guide and see boxing listed. Because of the way thing's have been, I haven't often checked the sports channels these last few months. But if viewers watch on a Tuesday, enjoy what they see and then know there will be something on again like clockwork on Thursday and the following Tuesday, I think the numbers will start to grow.
Boxing's big problem is the irregularity with which boxers fight. It makes it really hard to build name recognition when a fighter might not turn up again until the next calendar year.
I thought the actual quality of the broadcast was OK, given there was no crowd, but yeah, a more competitive matchup would have been better.Comment

I’ve been saying Arum is wasting prime ESPN air time and exposure for his fighters.
Tomorrow’s fight will be good though. The Dominican Republic is
Like Colombia, it produces quality fighters just not on the elite level.
Magdaleno is good but Vicente can crack.
I wonder how a Latino main event does. I’ve been watching on ESPN deportes since I don’t get regular ESPN anymore. I remember in Latin America boxing is still a main attraction.Comment

The Stevenson-Caraballo card is a microcosm of why boxing is in the state that it is in. The first boxing card after the Coronavirus pandemic presents Stevenson as a 100-1 favorite as the main event and it averages 397K viewers. A prime time slot, on ESPN, on a night when there are no other live sporting events (not to mention only a handful of live US sporting events having preceded it) it's a *****ing embarrassment. Any major sports organization would be embarrassed to televise a mismatch of that caliber let alone on a defacto opening day, not Top Rank. Televised boxing cards are at the point that the intrigue is not if Fighter A will win, but by how much.
The promoters, especially Top Rank, have been running it into the ground for years with the boxing media scared to criticize them out of fear of being blackballed and losing one of the best perks there is to being a boxing writer (fight credentials). The diehards pick sides to which promoter is less *****tier and prop up the corpse of boxing like it's a Weekend at Bernie's.
Boxing is the best sport when it's at its best, but it's best is consistently fewer and further apart. These numbers actually have a silver lining to them because once the major financiers withdraw their support, the top promoters will be forced to change their practices or file for bankruptcy, in which case, a new and improved structure with better leadership can be built in its place.Comment

We've been craving boxing and as soon as we get it back the 1st thing we do is hate on numbers. 600k doesn't even seem that bad to me.Comment

Awww. Look how soft you sound when you’re not making anti-DAZN threads.
When Fox Sports sees these type of numbers for their boxing allocation budgets, the execs won’t be interested that Shakur isn’t popular or that it was a mismatch. Plenty of those on PBC for a hot a minute! No, the Fox execs will simply see that the PBC Boxing schedule isn’t priority!!
Word on the street is that PBC is being bought for $1.5 million and will appear on that evangelist network that Austin Trout recently appeared.
And that’s all she wrote!
DAZN is for the bid dogs!Comment
