  • Comments Thread For: Haye: Usyk-Chisora Not Looking Likely For A While; Need Crowd For That Fight

David Haye would prefer to express some optimism regarding rescheduling the Oleksandr Usyk-Dereck Chisora fight. Chisora's manager just can't see it happening anytime soon. Haye hasn't discussed a potential date with promoter Eddie Hearn because they'll need a crowd to attend the Usyk-Chisora card, which won't be allowed in England for the foreseeable future.

They'll need a crowd because it won't generate enough money or they think the fight is bigger than it is and want to cash in.. or a bit of both?

They need to be careful how they play it. Everyone seems to be wanting to play the waiting game and too much mediocre fed to fans will leave a sour taste imo.

The fight only has interest to me just to see how Usyk adapts to heavyweight rather than watching him fight Chisora.

They can make it in New York, they don't have troubles finding crowd, "...What a field day for the heat, A thousand people in the street..."

Sounds like greed plain and simple. They could do it if they wanted to tomorrow, they'd just make less money, but they could still do it.

I think the power brokers in boxing need to adjust their expectations for what fights should bring in. It's just not a popular sport anymore. Most the fights are boring. It had a little resurgence due to the excitement of Manny Pacquiao, and the emotional investment of pure frustration that Floyd Mayweather wouldn't "fight him," and the exciting style of GGG, all either culminating or starting at let's say the peak of the popularity of twitter, youtube, etc, BUT:

        1. People eventually burn out on frustration. I mean, it's not a very enjoyable emotion....

        2. May-Pac ******, and all the years of teasing about the exciting, likable, rootable GGG finally getting his "big drama shows" and recognition culminated in nothing really except more frustration and quite underwhelming fights vs Canelo

        3. All the new fans who heard about boxing for the first time through twitter, youtube, PBC on network TV, etc, had a chance to check it out, and quickly found out what all the people who stopped watching boxing during the last generation already knew, 90% of the "fights" are boring, the product is terrible, the wait times between matches is ridiculous, the introductions take forever, the boxers spend more time hugging than punching, the commentators are the worst in all sports and constantly have an irritating agenda to push, and the general aroma of bull**** permeates every single aspect of the product.

Boxing just isn't a good product for 99% of people. Unless there is a way to improve the product, I think the people selling said product need to significantly lower their expectations as far as how much money they expect to sell the average example of their product for.
