Interesting. I don't agree with all of his conclusions, but his thoughts as a participant are awesome . Lots of fighters (losers) on his record would've given gold to know those thoughts back in the day.
Word salad indeed. Great article.

He tries far too hard but it has undeniably worked for him. However it doesn't;t work for Jnr who just comes across as a spoilt idiot.Comment

An 18-year-old Eubank Sr in Manhattan in July 1985 with a black eye from sparring Jesse Lanton and Richard Burton at the old Gleasons (pre-DUMBO), black eye caused by BurtonComment

Sr. got a cool history imo. Didn’t he say he went to high school in NYC? I take it he had one parent in the states? Or did one of his older brothers sponsor his stay? I like stories of Brits putting in that work in the states at a young age and return to their homeland with prosperity. New York always been a rough place and Eubank said he lived in Harlem... also guys like Andy Lee relocated to Detroit for Cronk. These cities aren’t ideal living places but it’s what makes the game dirty and raw!Comment

He jumped bail at 16 to flee London, his dad sending him to live with his mum in the South Bronx! His mum had left years before after being beaten by his dad and cheated on. She called for her boy when she heard he was on the wrong path.
She encouraged him to join the local gym to stay out of trouble, and enrol at school and go to church with her. Eubank wanted to please her because he didn't know why she ever left, believing it may of been because of him. He didn't find out for a few years by which time he was a very promising fighter.
It was the Jerome Club that Eubank trained at, where Alex Ramos and Wilfredo Gomez called home in the 70s and where Hector Camacho sparred in front of Eubank at 16. He fought every Fri and Sat night at the 'smokers' that Nelson Cuevas (RIP) put on in his gym in front of 200 drunken blood-thirsty spectators hedging bets. He learned the game the hard way. Went back to England in '88......Comment
