I thought Oscar was carrying Ryan Garcia, but Haney has had it way too easy. Ryan has fought a little bit better opposition, but at least he’s not a champion yet. How did the WBC pick Haney out of everyone to hand over the belt? The WBC should have let him fight for the vacant belt. Also, his first title defense was a joke....Someone like Teofimo is 15 fights in and took the belt away from a champ. Even excluding Teofimo’s best win, Richard Commey - I think he still trashes Haney’s resume by not just the level of opposition, but the way that he finishes his opponents is even more impressive. There’s hype around Haney’s skills because of the amateur background, but man he has it really easy.
Devin Haney is having it easy

I'm a big Haney fan, he's going to be something special with a bit more maturity. But I can't stand these franchise belts and I really don't like how they just pick somebody to pass the regular title on to without fighting for it. -
They should at least make them fight for the vacant title.Comment

How does OP conclude that Ryan Garcia faced better opposition than Devin Haney? Haney's last opponent ( Alfredo Santiago ) beat arguably Garcia's best opponent in Jayson Velez.
Zaur Abdullaev, that faced Haney for the WBC 'interim' belt would give Ryan a tough test, I mean at least he was a lightweight as oppose to the last super-featherweight that Ryan faced ( Francisco Fonseca ).Comment

Devin and Zaur Abdullaev were the WBCs #1 and #2 ranked contenders at the time Loma was made Bullchise Champion.
Latest WBC boxing rankings and champions. We list the top 15 fighters with the WBC across all weight classes. Includes mandatory positions & full records.
The franchise crap is amongst the most audacious and egregious BS I ever saw in boxing, and that's saying something. What is a title but a piece of paper say you got to fight the highest ranked guys rather than just exactly who you please when you bring it down the fundamentals? Hell the very point of the sanctioning orgs in the first place was in a large part to bring some semblence of order and legitimacy to the free for all that had existed before by forcing the Champ to fight the highest ranked... the WBC turned their back on their entire raison d'etre here.
The problem here (aside from the franchise BS) is largely the multiplicity of sanctioning orgs and their disparate ranking systems meaning who they got highest ranked very often ain't the same guys we, the fans, consider most deserving.
Won't disagree with the TS about Teo though, that's a kid legitimately proved himself, but it ain't Devin's fault the WBC pulled the Bullchit they didLast edited by Citizen Koba; 05-27-2020, 03:47 AM.Comment

Zaur was in fact the WBCs #2 ranked dude, right behind Haney. Not sure exactly what the grounds were but generally these unbeaten guys get the slot when the guys above 'em lose. How does OP conclude that Ryan Garcia faced better opposition than Devin Haney? Zaur Abdullaev victory over Henry Lundy is probably better than any win Ryan Garcia has on his resume, despite having far less experience as a professional. By the time Zaur Abdullaev competed against Devin Haney for the WBC lightweight 'Interim' title, Abdullaev just had 10 pro-fights, but Zaur is not with Golden-Boy or a hype-job, so he was overlooked.
This clown Ryan Garcia, is turning down offers from Devin Haney and talking like the challenge has never been issued, putting Devin's name at the end of the list of champions at lightweight that he intends to fight, but none of those other titlist have offered Ryan a shot or even showed up to DAZN practically begging this diva to get it on.Comment
