Tyson was a great heavyweight the problem is people just go overboard with him they say he can do anything and destroy everyone because they see his highlight reel when they dont see he had a big issue with with boxers who werent scared of him and knew how to use there length.

Julio César Chávez is 57 years old and puts on entertaining exhibitions with Jorge Arce. That doesn't mean Chávez is looking to make a comeback and clean out the division.
A Tyson/Holyfield 3 round exhibition would be great to watch and very doable...nothing more needs to be read into it.Last edited by jaded; 05-19-2020, 02:29 AM.Comment

We can call him 5 11 and a half of you want. Still a big deal to out jab mobile tall fighters like Tucker was at the time. I should know, i was always short for my weight class. But to be honest, as in the case of James Toney, I would rather bet on a person knowing their own height, than got with stats. You know in the Nunn fight they listed Toney at 6 foot plus? The marketing Team behind Tyson in the 80s may have eageratted he's height. It was a time for that kind of thing. Every wrestler was taller than he was, every bodybuilder had 25 inch arms. You can surely see the difference in the way Tyson moved hes head and feet in the 80s whether you like him or not. He was dedicated and not coked up. That's what people call Prime. Its like watching Sugar Ray Leonard against Benitez and comparing him to the guy who fought Norris. Primes are real.Well u calling him 5’10” is another prime example of people trying to give him extra credit. He was always listed at 5’11.5 and Larry Merchant said he saw Tyson measured with his own eyes and was 5’11.5”. Yet I’ve heard so many people say he’s 5’10”, 5’9” and they have absolutely no proof. I’ve been laser measured at just a c hair over 5’10” and I weigh 214lbs lean enough. True, I’m taller than most everyone who claims to be 5’10” and they say I must be taller, but I tell the truth. I know that doesn’t help my argument, but I’m sure Mike is taller than me, just from visuals and weight. At 220lbs lean I look more compact and like bodybuilder than he does, and I have legs. So to me I see that difference in height. Course I have no proof. But then again why does everyone shave inches off Mikes listed height? Who else does this happen with? Why would u give him credit for being 5’10” when he was never listed at that? I mean kids today probably think his first name is “prime”.Comment

Yeah, he wasn't the greatest. But he didn't just quit in hes losses, fall done from one punch, or have give and takes with some big hitters. The Atlas stuff is ridiculous, and I think he's admitted himself, personal. I f the guy had threatened my niece, or worse, i wouldnt see any good in him either. But then I shouldn't be asked my unbiased opinion. People should look closer into the narrative. Mike is 0 and 6 now apparently lol.Tyson was a great heavyweight the problem is people just go overboard with him they say he can do anything and destroy everyone because they see his highlight reel when they dont see he had a big issue with with boxers who werent scared of him and knew how to use there length.Comment

Credit for mentioning names
(but you stopped at EXAMINING THEM !)
DLH only moved down to WW, a place he has been to in almost A DECADE, was the $$$$
People called DLH a glorified promoter when May fought him, but he's a legit win because Pac beat him ?
MAB and Morales were ages ago and far from prime.
Hatton was a joke when May beat him.
BRONER ?!?!?!
Margarito, Diaz, that other guy
Cotto was almost another DLH $$$$$$ move.
That coward Pac (and I don't usually associate boxers with cowardice) wanted Cotto to do yet ANOTHER CLAUSE for the rematch. FOH !!!!!
Run down these names and you tell me -
Lucas, Vargas, Rios, Algieri, Horn, Bradley 3x......
With Mike, it's excuse after excuse as for why he stopped being the baddest man on the planet. If he spent his entire career fighting stiffs like Seldon, he would still be fighting and his fans would be loving it.Comment

Really nice article. Definitely interesting to see people's innate desire for myth and legend to spill out into the real world (and media's penchant for turning turning the real into the myth through highlight reels and video games).
As plenty others have said, I'll echo: Tyson stays in shape, good for him. He's talking about doing some exhibitions, maybe for charity. That's great! Holyfield is taking about getting it, too - these two could raise some serious cash cash together doing some exhibitions. But getting in the ring for real? That's not serious talk.Comment

Ah, so you're one of those fans who think boxing is a Steven Seagal film and anyone who isn't Ray Robinson is a bum yeah? I can do that game with literally anyone. It's easy. Barrera was a huge favourite and hadn't declined at all until he got beat, Morales was a good fighter as you'd see if you watched the fight. As soon as you beat a good champion he was faded am I right? DelaHoya was a huge favourite two weight up, Diaz a decent lightweight champion. The joke Hatton had only lost to Mayweather, a decent championship, young tough fighter with great fitness and heart. Cotto a fearsome puncher although I don't like catch weights either, Ward Dawson for example, robbed us of a good match. Then, at 40 beating Broner and Thurman, Keith was at least seen as a top 3 welter. But then, 40 year olds do that all the time. And then there's Mike, a dominant heavyweight champion, who fought men much larger, who won fights in great style. All so easy to write off. Makes me wonder why you haven't done better in boxing.. 🤔Credit for mentioning names
