i dont think it causes brain problems, i KNOW it causes brain problems. the human head and brain are NOT designed to take repeated blows to the head over a number of years.

    this thread is ******ed.

ROFLLLL, you dont have to be a doctor to know that being constantly hit in the head is gonna cause problems to your head. The same way I wouldn't be surpised if someone who got kicked in the legs for a living later on developed problems walking. ROFL

Concerning Toney, he spars ALOT. What alot of people fail to realize when they say a guy has not taken alot of punishment in his fights is that alot of the punishment comes in the gym.

Meldrick Taylor man thats all you have to look at to know. There is however, some lucky people like Gatti, who suprisingly still speak well.

It also depends if the guy had a brain to begin with look at Rid**** Bowe, listen to his speech around 1992 and then listen around 1996

It's not whether you think boxing damages the brain or not.

It's a well known fact that boxing effects the brain, who would think otherwise? It effects some fighters more than others though. Jake Lamotta and George Chuvalo both took a lot of punishment and fought a lot of fights and yet they are still alive and healthy today. But obviously their brains have been affected in some way.

Chuvalo, Lamotta as Stinger said, and what about Willie Pep. He fought 240 fights and is still alive and healthy from what I understand. Even thought he was a defence artists, he did fought many many fights.

the brain can repair itself to a point but obviously some pemenant damage can occur in a pro boxer

I forget where I read it but I think the statistic was the 75% of boxers with more than 20 fights show some signs of brain damage.

                    Edit
                    Here it is :

The AMA reports brain deterioration in three out of four boxers who have twenty or more professional fights.
