Who is the greatest fighter to ever lose a fight?

I’m talking about one individual version of a fighter in a singular fight.

I’d say it’s the 81 version of Thomas Hearns that lost to Ray Leonard.

Hearns showed various dimensions to his game, toughness, heart, elite skills, power, speed. Plus he was physically a freak of nature at 147.

I’m not sure any other welterweight in history would have beaten Hearns that night. Ray Robinson is the only other guy I could see doing it.

      Leonard Duran I
      Armstrong Zivic
      Ali Frazier I
      Louis Schmelling
      Tunney Greb
      Robinson Lamotta

Tbh it may as well just be ‘what is the greatest win of all time, just without the context of the winner if that makes sense

They are all right up there. Another two I would add would be Toney losing to Jones Jr and Foreman losing to Ali.

What would be your number 1 pick?

What separates Hearns for me is he fought the right fight tactically. He prepared immaculately but ultimately fell to Leonard’s greatness.

Leonard for example fought the wrong fight tactically against Duran in Montreal.

Duran is a good shout. He looked damn near unbeatable at 135.

Ray was on a European tour partying when he fought Turpin the first time, he was terribly underprepared.
