I have always thought that social media creates an illusion 'I have noticed people on here, quoting twitter & Instagram followers to measure world wide appeal 'Maybe this is correct for a certain demographic, but all demographics'.
Social media in some ways in my opinion dilutes and devalues superstardom 'There is a certain aura that has been lost'. When I was a very small child, Michael Jackson came to my city to perform 'My parents and the whole family, we all went out in the car looking for Michael Jackson' Just to see if we could maybe catch him heading the airport or hotel I assume 'I was very young', all I knew was that Michael Jackson was in town.
Anyway we caught a glimpse of a white limousine, people on the streets and inside other cars where beeping with their windows rolled down 'There is Michael Jackson' they would shout to other drivers on the road. That moment in my life seemed like a very symbolic scene, extremely ethereal 'Influential'.
Mike Tyson is probably the last boxer to have a world wide mass demographic appeal 'I will go as far as to say? He is the last athlete from all combat sports to have a mass worldwide appeal' I am not duped by social media.
These days? Athletes or celebrities will gain a few million followers on social media and they think they are superstars. They can all disappear in a instant, that is how much fame and superstardom is really worth 'It is nothing, has very little substance'.
Mike Tyson in and of himself has substance.
