Does this Mikey Garcia statistic surprise you?

Mikey Garcia is a four division champion who has 41 professional fights.

So is it surprising to know that he’s only defended a world championship twice in his entire career?

It shocked me when I realized that. But yes, his only two title defenses came against Juan Carlos Burgos in 2014 and Robert Easter in 2018.

Eh. There’s plenty dynamics why fighters don’t do defenses and jump at different alternatives. Look at PAC. The most defenses were back at Super Bantam innit, with the IBF? Later in the career it was WBO University matchmaking under Top Rank up to the top of “154.”

You would expect him to have a few more defences, his 2 year hiatus hasn’t helped matters.

He was also meant to defend the 126 belt against Juanma Lopez, but missed weight so lost the title on the scales.

Broner only has two also, as he missed weight on two of his four scheduled defences.

That actually doesn't surprise me. Just what I recall of his career over the years, he wasn't ever really sticking around to defend titles. He didn't win a world title until his 31st fight, so that's 10 fights since where he could theoretically defend, and between his breaks and weight jumping I'm not surprised he wasn't defending belts.

Well, that's what you get with this weight hopping era.

That's why I respect what Hagler, Monzon, and GGG did at their 1 weight.

Hopkins stuck around for a decade as champ too.

                  He should fight Danny Garcia.

He is following the Canelo catch and release like fishermen who catch a big fish, snap a photo and then throw it back in the ocean. Win a title and get the glory but never defend it.
