Former Olympian and future prospect Vanes Martirosyan (9-0, 6 KOs) is quickly making a name for himself and determined to surprise the super welterweight division. Nicknamed "The Nightmare" because of beating and shocking ranked fighters in the Olympics when he was considered an underdog, Vanes is hungry for a shot in his division.

20-year-old Martirosyan will be the opening for this Saturday's pay per view fight with Hasim Rahman and Oleg Maskaev. The young prospect is promising an exciting victory this weekend and vows to give nothing less than an entertaining, action-packed performance.

Vanes spoke to ********* about his future plans, how he started boxing, and about this weekend's fight.

So Vanes, How is training going so far?
Everything is going great. I'm in the best shape of my life. I've been working really hard. Been sparring with Roman Karmazin, the Former IBF World Champion. I feel good, I feel great!

Growing up, you never realized you were that good of a fighter. You were even considered an underdog many times. How confident are you in taking the same approach and surprising the superstars in your division?
Before I loved being the underdog. My dad and my uncle always told me you don't know what kind of fighter you are. You don't know what you have, we know how strong you are. Then little by little I started getting that confidence, every time I'd go in there and beat these top guys, I'd feel strong and be like what just happened. I'd hit them with a punch and would hurt them. I was like wow, am I really that good? It all started in the amateurs with my uncle and my dad telling me that I was good. I started realizing that and now I go into to the ring with all the confidence in the world.

As a former Olympian, you represented the USA and are also very proud of your Armenian background. How exciting is it fighting before your American and fellow Armenian fans?
I'm American-Armenian. I love all my fans. I like to make them happy. It was an honor representing USA. I still represent USA and it's a honor to me.

What age did you start boxing and what made you finally decide to make it into a career?
My father was a boxer. I was a little kid, I had a lot of energy, I would always run around the house. So my father saw it in me and found a boxing gym by my house. He took me there and I started when I was seven years old.

Do you compare your fighting style to anyone and have a favorite fighter in particular?
I love Muhammad Ali. I love Oscar De La Hoya. Sometimes when I move on my foot people tell me you fight like Muhammad Ali in his younger days. So it's just great to be compared to him. But I have my own style I would say.

Training with Freddie Roach and having Shelly Finkel as your manager, how does it feel to have such an awesome stable?
It's very good. It's great, I also have Bob Arum, Top Rank as my promoter. I have the best team, best trainer, Freddie Roach, Justin Fortune, Shelly Finkel, Top Rank, Nick Khan, Keith Davidson. I have the best team, the rest is all up to me.

What's it like training with Freddie Roach?
Seriously it's really an honor. I learn something new from Freddie everyday. He teaches me stuff I never thought I knew. When I use it in the ring I just start smiling cause it works and it feels so good!

Any predictions for your fight coming up this Saturday night?
I'm just going to go out there and do my best. I'm going to win for sure. I'm going to promise all of my fans that I'm not going to disappoint them.

What kind of goals do you have your eyes set on in this division?
I want to get the title at junior middleweight. Then move up to middleweight then super middleweight. It all depends on how big I get. But I want to get the title at junior middleweight first.

In closing, what do you have to say to your fans?
To all my fans that have been supporting me. My American Armenian fans, I love everybody. To people who know me or don't know me, it's a good time to start. After Saturday I want everybody to check out *********.com and get the latest results!
