Comments Thread For: Valdez: Stevenson Thinks I'm Avoiding Him, But Berchelt's A Tougher Opponent

Shakur Stevenson sensed Oscar Valdez avoided him when the undefeated featherweight champion gave up his WBO title last summer. Stevenson was the mandatory challenger for Valdez's belt, but Valdez vacated it rather than facing the 22-year-old southpaw. The 2016 Olympic silver medalist instead completely out-boxed second-ranked rival Joet Gonzalez to win that unclaimed championship by unanimous decision October 26 in Reno, Nevada.

I can't believe Berchelt has not put himself in the 135 mix by now? Valdez should make it a good fight, but it seems like Berchelt doesn't want the big time yet.

You can run but you cant hide Oscar Valdez! Josh Warrington is avoiding little 2Pac! Shakur Stevenson has the featherweight division shook.

Hes a knock out waiting to happen. I like Berchelt but he doesnt move his head and has looked super slow at times. Despite Berchelt being built like a tank, Valdez is the more athletic of the 2. If it werent for Valdez's defensive Flaws, I think Valdez would be to much for him.

As for Stevenson, I dont think he loses until he reaches 140.

I wish we could see GRJ vs. Stevenson @ 126 ASAP! That would be a nice co-main event for Wilder vs. Fury III.

Agreed, Berchelet would K.O Stevenson and will K.O Valdez if they meet. Honestly, from 130-135 the only fighter I see giving Berchelet issues is Loma, and that fight is a toss up.

Agreed. Don't know how its ducking when you're going after bigger fish for a title shot & more money. Stevenson is young & uber-talented, but he's a total unknown & ain't no money in fighting him(at least yet). Berchelt has been starched in the first round before(long ago though), so I'll never count out any puncher against him. Hope this fight happens bc in no way can this be boring.

I'd say Valdez is my CLEAR 2nd favorite fighter. Period. And Berchelt destroys him right now. I don't if some of y'all are sleeping on Berchelt. That kid is a beast! He is fireworks to watch too. I think he destroys this newer version of Valdez that we have now
