How do you become a boxing judge/ref?

Has anyone looked into becoming a ref/judge? Does anyone here have any knowledge on the subject? Maybe some of you guys are already boxing judges?

There is usually a small registration form from the state athletic commission (or some such agency), with a small fee. My understanding is many refs tend to start by working local amateur fights. Making connections, being on the right people's radar, then moving into small pro shows.

Over here, you contact your regional administration and take a course. It’s similar to doing coaching badges. You’ll be asked to pass exams and will score fights whilst being assessed by experienced officials.

I think 1 of the requirements is you have to be eligible to collect Social Security. 2nd requirement is YDSAB. 3rd you have to be open to bribes.

get your qualifications and score fights the way the promoter putting on the show wants them scored

Best way is to start off as an amateur. Get some experience. Network, get to know the movers and shakers of the sport, then apply for a professional license. The way it is supposed to work is that you start off judging 4-rounders and work your way up. After so many fights you'll be ready for title fights. However, there have been several instances where judges have gone straight to the top without a lot of experience due to connections with family and friends. Many of the top judges have those sort of connections with the commissions, networks and promoters.
