    Lost Tommy Hearns Moments

There are 2 great fights that are NOT discussed regarding the career of Tommy Hearns.
1 He won the WBA Light Heavyweight Title from Virgil Hill. Hill was an high level amateur, won Olympic Silver and was undefeated. Hearns gave the performance of his career. Literally his best fight where he displayed all his boxing skills. This is a guy who was Welterweight Champ who's making it happen late in his career, 4 weight classes higher, with a peak level performance. No mention

2 His rematch with Leonard. Everything is on the line. He loses he's forgotten. He knocks Ray down twice in a barn burner of a war and survives the last round when he's out on his feet. Couldn't write a better script for a movie. The fight is rarely discussed.
    Makes no sense to me.

If I remember correctly Hearns knocked out Hill with a body punch.

I’m definitely in the minority but I always preferred Hearns-Leonard 2 over the first. Maybe because Hearns, my guy, weathered the storms and avoided being knocked out in that one. Came close to being KTFO but hey, that’s just how Hearns does it sometimes. Only thing I don’t like is that they robbed him. Great fight though.

I prefer the rematch as well. Leonard was ****y leading up to the fight always pointing to his chin making fun of Tommy. Ray had a rude awakening. He even admits he lost the fight. I loved the post fight press conference when Tommy was pointing to his chin and then put his leg on the table saying Hey Ray what about my chin and my old legs. True redemtion that night. He exercised that ghost. There is a great breakdown of that fight on youtube.

It's unfortunate when he almost killed Duran and beat Leonard in the eyes of many in the rematch.

An older Hill was KO'd from a Roy Jones liver shot. At that time it the first on TV in decades.

The liver is located on the right side of your body. Hill was nailed in the left side and suffered some broken ribs. KO of the year because that never happens to anyone. Especially a tough guy like Hill. I can understand the false memory because liver shot seems more logical.

I lived and died with the two Hearns-Leonard fights. Saw the first on Closed Circuit TV in Lake Tahoe, going into Round 14 there was no way Hearns loses that fight but Leonard had that extra something I think Hearns lacked just a bit. The second fight was a robbery and the draw hurt Hearns legacy even though he deserved the decision. The Hagler fight was desperation. I think he went for it so early to either win it or lose it and not have to go through 12 or 15 rounds of hell. Great fighter, great skills, maybe just a bit short of the mental strength of Leonard and Hagler. But that right hand following the left jab - he KO'd some people big time in his day.

I agree. For some reason that fight is rarely talked about.
