Chris Mannix is the best and the closest thing to Larry Merchant

Larry Merchant was one of the best because he called out everyone and kept it real.

    The promoter of the show?

    Called out.

The fighters in the main event?

    Called out.

Judges, referees, his fellow commentators and unofficial scorers?

    Called out.

No one was safe. And that’s part of what made HBO great. They told the story around the fight and it was objective. 95-percent of that was Larry Merchant. Max Kellerman also did a good job of filling that role when it was his time.

Merchant and Kellerman were boxing reporters who gave objective takes to the audience. That way someone just tuning in could understand every angle.

But with HBO out of the game and with the networks being so deeply in bed with promoters now, objectivity is gone.

You don’t get that real storytelling around the fight anymore. The talking heads (like Lampley) are still there. The boxers offering analysis during the fights are still there. But the objective boxing reporters who tell the story of the fight are no longer a part of the broadcasts.

Except for Chris Mannix. Mannix is exactly that and will tell it like it is. I’ve heard him offer all angles and criticisms on everyone including DAZN, GBP, Matchroom and the boxers.

So I just wanted to state that I appreciate him. We all should.

I always thought Merchant picked his spots. He’d call out a guy like Lennox Lewis in an interview who was calm and collected but he would have never tried that sh** with Tyson cause he knew he was volatile.

I like Kellerman but he can be a cheerleader sometimes.

HBO’s coverage will never be rivalled IMO, even as a British guy their coverage was always the best.

Yeah it felt like a premium product. Even their content in general like the 24/7 or greatest hits stuff. Their production was always excellent.

Mannix is good, I like his podcast as well, but one thing I can't stand about him is that, for an industry-insider, he acts like the business aspect doesn't exist.

I'm tired of hearing him ***** and moan about PBC guys and Canelo not fighting Andrade; No one is fighting Andrade, ever, especially as long as he is with Matchroom/DAZN, and that's 100% Andrade's fault; he fights in a boring, negative style with no personality and has no fans. Tired of hearing Mannix argue how unfair it is that no one will unify with him. Sergio Martinez and Golovkin came to this country with no fans, but made themselves must-see TV with their performances. They brought themselves to a level commercially that made sense to make fights with Chavez Jr/Canelo. Andrade hasn't done that, won't do that, and will accomplish nothing as champion. The other champions don't owe him ****. Want a big fight? Move up a weight class or two and be a scalp on Bivol's record or something.
