    Tough Round Scoring -- Rd. 3 Quartey/Forrest

This was a very interesting round to score after I watch the fight a second time. I initially scored the round for Forrest the first time I watched it, simply based on a couple of bodyshots he landed and the big uppercut that stunned/hurt Ike. I thought that was enough to win a guy a round.

Now that I watch it again, it was a much closer round than when I first scored it. I'll admit, I somewhat loosely score this stuff when I watch it the first time because I watch the fights to enjoy them, not to critically break them down.

Now...the first minute of the round is pretty close (3:00-1:50), but Ike gets in the better work. He is lands a couple of very stiff jabs and quite a few slapping shots that don't have full effect. Vernon doesn't really get much work in during the opening stanza, finding Ikes gloves a bit more than his face. Vernon manages to land a few jabs here and there and a left hook to the pit of Quarteys belly which is a good shot.

The next minute (1:49-:51) contains this sequence where Forrest lands that sick uppercut that hurts Quartey while he leans in. Ike holds on for an extended period of time and his legs buckle. Forrest goes for a savage right hand but misses...then comes back a few second later and lands two hard bodyshots. He jabs through Ike's guard but can't get in another shots to hurt Ike again.

The final part of the round is about the :50-:00 mark. Ike clearly gets in the better work here...landing a hard left hand bodyshot and a hard left hook in between Vernons punching. He also lands a little straight left hand and some crisp jabs as well. Vernon lands a couple of insignificant punches...a small right hand over the top.

How do you score that round? Do you give it to Vernon for his work in the middle of the round or Ike for what I see as better work to start and finish the round. Is Vernon stunning/hurting Ike a bit in the middle of the round enough to win it for him? How do you all see it?

Oh yeah and this isn't a thread to complain on...just give your score and an analysis of why you scored how you did please.

i remember scoring the round for forrest but i was conscious of the fact that quartey def won the rest of the round both before and after the uppercut. i think probably half the reason i gave the round to forrest was because of quarteys reaction and the way he grabbed forrest around the neck. though there was no deduction made by the referee any judge looking at that ringside and seeing how blatant it was may have been swayed. if quartey had actually been made to break from forrest in a reasonable amount of time. (id say he had him choked for a good 3-4 seconds) he may very well have been put down and hurt very badly.

so i dont know, i guess what im saying is yeah that was a tough round to score, i thought a lot of them were. i remember thinking to myself that this is the kind of match id hate to be a judge of.

I scored it for Forrest based mainly on the uppercut. It was clearly the most significant punch of the round and in retrospect was the most significant punch of the fight. One punch shouldn't win you the round but outside that punch it was pretty much an even round to me. You definitely could score it for Quartey (Lederman did).

I scored it for Ike even though he was hurt, and any other time I probably would have scored for the guy who hurt him, but I remember Ike doing alot more scoring then Forrest in the round before and even after that big uppercut. Even giving Ike that round I still scored the fight a draw

This kind of round is an interesting type of scenario though. In a round when somebody is clearly hurt/stunned but wins the rest of the round, regardless of who it is, do you give the round to the fighter who was hurt but won the rest or the guy who hurt the other fighter but lost the other parts of the round.

I thought it was an interesting scenario.
