I saw an interview with Griffin on another website, and it seems he is in line for a title shot at MW soon. Apparently he beat Jermain Taylor in the amateurs and it was a fairly one-sided beating. I have never seen this guy fight although I looked up his record on boxrec and was not all too impressed. Has anyone seen this guy at amateur or professional level? Can you describe how he fights and if he would be competitive against the elite guys of the division?
Randy Griffin: Thoughts?

that's my boy! he's from somewhere on the east coast but adopted Louisville as his hometown. he fights very similar to a Vernon Forrest (well, how Forrest used to find) in that he's rangy and has a wide stance with bad balance. he knocked out Julio Garcia in what is probably his best win, but I also heard he beat Masoe, who Sturm just beat in March. I don't think he can go too far, but he can beat Javier Castillejo, which would be just awesome. Imagine seeing my boy Griffin in against my homeboy Taylor. Taylor would roll him, but it would great for me to have that fight come off. -
He was on the undercard of Tyson vs. Williams in 2004 here in Louisville, but I don't know if Showtime showed that fight or not. hope they did because it was a pretty good scrap. pretty even til Griffin floored him in the 8th round I think it was. but like I said, he isn't going too far, and regardless of what happened in the amateurs, he can't handle Jermain Taylor at the professional level. all boxers do better than boxer/punchers in the amateurs anyway.Comment

Alright so he is pretty good but he can't beat Taylor. Sounds like a bad style match for him at the professional level. What about the other guys like Winky, Abraham, Miranda, Pavlik, Lorenzo?Originally posted by DiegoFuegoHe was on the undercard of Tyson vs. Williams in 2004 here in Louisville, but I don't know if Showtime showed that fight or not. hope they did because it was a pretty good scrap. pretty even til Griffin floored him in the 8th round I think it was. but like I said, he isn't going too far, and regardless of what happened in the amateurs, he can't handle Jermain Taylor at the professional level. all boxers do better than boxer/punchers in the amateurs anyway.Comment

honestly, if anyone is to buy into Griffin as an elite fighter, it would be people like me in his hometown, but I can't picture him as anything but good. Not great, just good. He would probably lose to Winky, Abraham, and Miranda. I don't know about the others because I haven't seen them. After Abraham vs. Miranda, I'll have a better idea about those two though.Originally posted by amagninAlright so he is pretty good but he can't beat Taylor. So if he gets a shot at Taylor, he'll be seen as the sacraficial lamb like Spinks-Mayorga.Originally posted by DiegoFuegohonestly, if anyone is to buy into Griffin as an elite fighter, it would be people like me in his hometown, but I can't picture him as anything but good.
