    From Featherweight to Lightweight

    From Featherweight to Lightweight

Comparing the Fighters who have won recognized titles from 126 to 135. Featherweight and lightweight and in between and beyond. Not counting lineal titles.

Vasyl Lomachenko, WBO 126, WBO130, WBA, WBC, WBO 135
Mikey Garcia, WBO 126, WBO 130, WBC, IBF 135
Juan Manuel Marquez, WBA, IBF 126, WBC 130, WBO 135
Alexis Arguello, WBA 126, WBC 130, WBC 135
Jorge Linares, WBC 126, WBC, WBA 135
Henry Armstrong, World 126, World 135

So how do these guys stack up?

Would Armstrong just be too much for all of them?

I think Marquez would give Armstrong some problems with his counter-punching. I'm not sure Armstrong would be able to find Loma but given his stamina, he probably would down the stretch. Linares is the weaker champion here. I think they all beat him and as we know, Loma does. Loma and Garcia's probably never gonna happen but I favor Loma there.

    What do you guys think?

Armstrong would have been too strong IMO. It’s hard to gauge how effective his sort of ‘bob and weave’ style would hw e been against the more modern fighters though. I think Loma would beat the rest although Marquez could potentially give him trouble. Marquez-Garcia would be a really fun fight, I could see Marquez surviving a few scares and winning a decision in that one.

Did Humberto Soto also win titles from 126–135?

Yes, I think marquez-Garcia would be very interesting.

On Soto, it looks like he never won a featherweight title. I know the list looks short and I thought it would be longer but in my research, I'm not seeing any more. I actually hope there are more. Haha.

            No point in including Linares.

He was a champion in 3 divisions but doesn't have one great win on his resume.

Just realised I forgot about Arguello on my original post. I’m not sure Loma beats him. Just going off the eye test I think he’d have a significant physical advantage. He carried his explosive power through 15 rounds too.

I just remembered him stepping in on late notice and upsetting Rocky Juarez, must’ve been an interim title or something. Think Juarez was scheduled to fight In Jin Chi who had two fights with Michael Brodie over here.

Well, this includes all those who won recognized titles at 126 and 135. He won the titles. He's included. End of story.

A lineal title is a recognized boxing title, just not a world title.

It's actually the most prestigious. Because a lineal champion is recognized as "The Man" in that division.

If a boxer has a world title, you're just a beltholder, not a champion. You're just a champion of that boxing organization. Not "The Man".

And to think, there's never been a lineal champion in featherweight since 2005 makes me believe that it's been a weak era.

                    ^^ see reference
