Go to the link from week to week as the deaths are updated and you will not see a significant change in completely reported weeks.
I would wait for the april numbers to make a better comparison.

March had around 3800 Corona-related deaths and didnt even have more than 100 daily deaths until March 17th. It was still in the beginning of the outbreak.
While 3800 sounds like a big number, it's not big enough to really make a big difference in terms of number of deaths.

    Looking at April:
From april first until april the 21th, there have been supposedly 38000 corona-related deaths. That's 10 times the number of march.

Logically, the number of deaths in april should be a lot higher than last year. If it is not, then the risk of the Corona virus is overstated and a lot of deaths might have been wrongly counted towards the coronavirus numbers.

If the numbers are significantly higher than last year, the lockdown measures were necessary imo because those numbers would have been even higher if we had just done nothing.

Yeah, the world is run by idiots who clearly don't have your level of intelligence.
All countries are just falling for the hoax and bankrupting themselves independently for no reason.

Do you think Trump would close down the economy because of pressure from others? He's already proven that he is prepared to put the entire planet on the line by denying scientific evidence.
He would gladly exchange 2 million US lives for a financial upturn.

The fact that such a luddite as Trump (someone who rates his uneducated opinion on any given subject higher than the leading world authorities) has agreed to the shutdown speaks volumes.

They know something we don't, the World would not stop for a new strain of flu, even if some Western countries did so the other countries would just say f... it and carry on.

Iran is suffering terribly, blaming the Americans for biological warfare. They don't care about the public so why have they isolated and shut down?

People haven't become ****** overnight, the impact of this virus globally should tell you something other than "everyone is an idiot".

I do my research, I don't believe everything I'm told at all, not even close, but this is different, why?

Valid points, but I don't think what is reported is apples-to-apples. What the media shows as 'deaths' is anyone who died who tested positive for Covid, period. If you had a car wreck and had Covid, you end up in this column. What the CDC is tracking is a particular ICD-10 code which, in effect, states that Covid was believed to be the actual cause of death. Of the 40K reported deaths, it is quite possible that only 20K were directly related to the impact of Covid. It still sucks. Period. But a truthful number with truthful explanations would eliminate much of the panic.
BTW..thank you for being intelligent in your responses.

The world is run by politicians who normally run things according to the latest Gallup poll. Nobody is mentioning that more people were dying per day last year than this year. Nobody is mentioning that 2 years ago was even worse (caused by the flu). Why? It is ******* 'daddies' who believe they should wield power. Why make everyone stay in a cave when nearly everyone is safe? Shouldn't this be a call to arms to get people out to exercise since obesity and heart disease are two of the comorbidities driving mortality?
If you live in fear, wear a mask. Let that be your choice. Otherwise, let us be responsible for our lives. I'll take my chances playing hoops and running at the park. Everyone at Walmart takes a much greater risk every day.

You isolate to stop the virulent spread, not to protect yourself from the disease. If everybody just carried on the virus would overwhelm hospitals. It isn't because the disease is super deadly, just because it spreads fast and puts people in intensive care.

Your reasoning makes no sense, yes Western democracies are influenced by Gallop polls, but dictatorships and communist states don't give a ****e about Gallop poles, it doesn't matter to them one bit what the people think.

No problem, but actually little bit depressing that you felt the need to thank me for something that should be expected in a discussion.

They used the following metric to compare current death numbers with previous ones:

A better way to measure the full damage caused by such a medical crisis is to look at “excess mortality”: the gap between the total number of people who died from any cause during a given period, and the historical average for the same place and time of year.

If u believe these numbers, most countries are actually underreporting Corona-Virus related deaths.

                for example:

The numbers for England and Wales show that the death numbers from March 14th to April 10th are about 15k higher compared to the historical average. During that time 10k deaths were reported to be due to the virus.

Good info. Thanks for sharing. Interesting that in the UK ( I have been tracking their data and the US) was down 15K deaths from 2018 through March 20th (week 12 on their graph). I realize 2018 was a bad flu year. There does appear to be some impact...or is it timing? Let's hope this things improve in health and economy for all...
As for saying you were intelligent in your response...that was meant in a positive way---many posters like to resort to name calling in the first sentence with no regard for reason. So thanks again.
