Comments Thread For: Porter: Thought Of Not Fighting In Front Of A Crowd Really Bothers Me

From the moment the bell sounded to signal the 12th and final round of his memorable welterweight title unification clash with Errol Spence, Shawn Porter knew this was the stage on which he wanted to remain.

Porter does strike me as a fighter who does feed off a good crowd.

I'd be very surprised if a promoter put a fighter he can make decent money off in a crowdless fight. Yes these boxers talk of it and will say they'll do it but reality is there's plenty of lower ranked boxers who need the money and exposure which the promoters will want to test the waters with first.

These top boxers would have to take huge pay cuts to fight the same fighter for the same belts with the same risks when 3/6months later they can do the exact same thing for tenfold the money..

Yeah, well I was there at Porter v Brook it was near empty - each ticket buyer had a row to themselves

it's going to be pretty rich to hear some of these guys who espouse that they "cant listen to the fans, fans dont make fights" complain about lack of fans and funding for fights (not that Porter does that, but some others).

Honestly. Unless it’s a race baited , Mexican fight or a UK fight. Most boxing matches I been too were pretty quiet.

                    Not Surprising

I bet most guys at the top want a crowd and the fact they can perform under the brightest of the lights is one of the factors that separates them from the rest of the pack,

You hear it all the time in the sport of fighters looking like ATGs in the gym or on their way up only to buckle and fold as the stage gets bigger
