Nice stuff
There have been social movements springing up all throughout history, I think unfortunately the powers-that-be have gotten really good now at keeping the average man comfortably numb. We are thrown sops, and we are grateful!
What really gets me is the idea of 'business ethics'... an oxymoron, surely. A truly ethical position would be one that does not place survival of abstract entities (e.g. a limited company) above the wellbeing of individuals in society. I am hopeful that after the corona-virus has blown over in the UK, we may see a reassessment of the importance of community projects and of social care. But I am also very cynical, and I think we--the everyday population--are too already too apathetic, and as you say, conditioned, to get up off our bums and do something about it. As soon as the circuses return, all the complaints and good intentions will die away again.
Your point about abdicating control is spot on. You see it all the time with these petitions, wherein the approach is something akin to begging for alms. It has always been a sticking point for social movements, too afraid to take the final leap, too dependent on particular leaders
