I don't think anyone in the WBSS was really paid well. It mostly just helped guys springboard into big fights/promotional deals (Usyk, Prograis, Ramirez, Inoue) Ironically, Smith is the only winner who LOST steam from winning.

Smith got paid way over the odds for the Groves fight. In the first WBSS everyone got overpaid apparently. It's been bad for Smith actually because now he has an inflated valuation of himself.
