Comments Thread For: Callum Smith: Jacobs Makes Most Sense If I Can't Get Unification Fight

Callum Smith wants super middleweight title unification fights. If the unbeaten Brit can't secure such challenges against Billy Joe Saunders, David Benavidez or Caleb Plant, Daniel Jacobs is the challenger that interests Smith most. Smith, the WBA 168-pound champion, assessed potentially opposing Jacobs on Friday as part of an Instagram Live interview with Eddie Hearn, whose company promotes Smith and Jacobs.

Unification with Saunders should be easy to make and will pay both of them best in UK.
Saunders seems to fancy it more than Smith.

He turned down what was a low-ball offer for him. Pretty sure he got more out of the Groves fight than whatever he was offered by Golden Boy.

He should see if Bivol has any interest, maybe go to 175 or a catch-weight fight @ 172?

Jacobs has a story and a following and so does Saunders. Either, or, they both names and talent...make it happen.

I don't think anyone in the WBSS was really paid well. It mostly just helped guys springboard into big fights/promotional deals (Usyk, Prograis, Ramirez, Inoue) Ironically, Smith is the only winner who LOST steam from winning.

Yeah apparently Smith and Saunders both turned down their initial offers but Smith never heard back from them whereas negotiations continued with Saunders.

Smith/Jacobs is a really good fight. Hope it happens.
