Will boxing go to the Sunshine state?
Sports deemed "essential" in Florida...

WWE got a gift because Vince McMahon’s wife worked in the Trump cabinet and runs a super Pac for him. They would have lost a lot of TV mo way if they were forced off the air.
I don’t think this means any sport can get that type of deal. WWE is more of a weekly TV drama than a sport.Comment

I get what both of u are saying. But when it comes to boxing, this would be a work around, I guess and it could work for all of our benefit. Boxers and trainers, refs and judges only. Commentators in booths. Cameramen recording remotely, none ringside......better than nothing, no?WWE got a gift because Vince McMahon’s wife worked in the Trump cabinet and runs a super Pac for him. There would would obviously have to be testing of covid, before the fights, along with the regular piss n blood (for the fighters)of all those I just mentioned. I didnt watch wrestlemania (haven't since 88, watched em since wrestlemania 1) so I'm not sure how it was recorded, and all the other details, etc. My guess is that it WAS a success. If MMA follows suit, I'm sure boxing will too. FLA is a state with no state tax like NV......so there could be hope, no?Comment

I think what helps WWE is they have that Performance Centre that they own so can utilise it for filming shows, they have their own medical team, their own camera crew, officials etc.
No fight promoter has that same luxury. They heavily rely on commissions, public services etc.Comment

Only way it can be shut down is if the president says Florida must stand down.
they already found a loophole calling it essential, they just wont have an audience, and do the fights or sports games in empty stadiums
In California the governor wants to start lifting stay at home but under restrictive rules, mandatory mask wearing, no concerts or large sporting events, he is still contemplating to see if he will allow sports such as boxing or mma to take place in empty locations with no audience.
If Florida succeeds and has mma or boxing matches with no issue I think California will follow and allow some non audience closed door fights.Comment

Boxing is one of the few sports where it's plausible. Hold them in empty arenas test everyone who will be there, put it on TV. It's a limited number of people so you can limit the risk. If it goes bad, it goes bad. It's at least plausible to try, though.
Any team sport just cannot come back anytime soon, and definitely not with any crowd. The NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, it's all screwed for quite some time. MAYBE the NBA can come back if they have vigorous testing, but having vigorous testing for any sport is a bad, bad look when so much of the States can't get testing for people.Comment
