By Corey Erdman - TORONTO, ON-The week of March 12, Samuel Vargas was beginning to put the final touches on his preparation for one of the biggest fights of his career. At last an educated , knowledgeable and experienced analysis of the realities of physiology and preparation to compete safely and competently at the highest level.. are you listening mr promoter, mr tv company .. of course I understand the financial plight of boxers and the commercial understanding and pressures of promotional and TV companies but people health , preparation and fitness must come first . Perhaps this is an opportunity to finally structure a regulatory system the same as other sports .. not easy I know but what covid-19 has done is expose the frailties and structural inadequatises of our sport .

AJ should be fine to return immediately. He always maintains a 2 meter distance from his opponents, Since getting too close to the chubby Mexican and being battered around the ring.

Excellent article and a good one.

This is going to become a mess when these restriction lift. Is sad that boxers need that money and they are going to push their bodies to the limits, whether training during lockdown and inactive ones, are going to get bad consequences. If I guess, we are going to witness a large of numbers of fights postponed, because of injury and/or not the appropriate shape to fight. Also, there are some boxers who are going to need a Sports Psychology. Hope I am wrong here.

I would like to think there would be some sort of medicals beforehand. Now who pays for this will be the biggest debate because nobody wants to pay for anything just like they don't like paying for certain medical equipment which could save there life should something terrible happen in the ring...

The boxing boards and promoters needs to take time to get this right and dont go thinking social distance or lockdown is over so let's get fighting asap...

What concerns me is that some sections of society (misandrists) are loving this social distancing law, and who can be sure it won't hang around as a semi-permanent attitude?

there's always concern about germs, and there are over-zealous lunatics who think everything around them has an agenda to cause them harm - so I wonder.

In terms of athletes - shouldn't it be as simple as taking a series or battery of conclusive tests prior to a fight to ensure no one is positive?

We got through all the BS with AIDS and HIV, Hepatitis, just add this to the list.

We can't be in lockdown forever, by authoritarian governments, we have to go and earn and live oit there sometime, whilst practising good hygiene as usual.
