Comments Thread For: Teofimo Lopez: Being First Champ Of Honduran Descent Means Everything

Teofimo Lopez was twice cheated out of opportunities to represent the heart of a nation. It's what made his lightweight title-winning knockout of Richard Commey that much greater of a memory to savor. The unbeaten Brooklyn native became the first-ever boxer of Honduran descent to claim a major title in the pro ranks with the aforementioned feat. The win came more than three years after being robbed by the judges in the opening round of the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he represented Honduras after being cheated out of a spot on the United States team.

    MIDGETchenko Is Going To Sleep!

I have a feeling Lopez will stop the short-armed Ukrainian MIDGET if he fights behind a hard jab early and walks him into a power shot later the way Linares did.

I was kicking it with some Hondurans once. All they wanted to do was smoke weed and eat cheese.

Teofimo is rushing a match with Loma that will be there for several more years. He should enjoy his time as a champion and get a little more experience under his belt with guys like Tank or Haney. Don’t fault him either for daring to be great.

That fight will NOT be there for several more years.

Teofimo is rushing it because he is having trouble making 135 lbs. And he knows Lomachenko will not move up to 140.

Easier said than done. The Ukrainian is a very good boxer and exceptionally strong. He uses angles and his movement makes him a very hard target. It will be a good fight as long as it lasts.

None of us know that Lomachenko has no intentions of going to 140. Lopez May be having difficulty making 135 but that’s not to say Loma stops fighting at 135 either. All I’m saying is neither stop at 135. The fight will certainly be there again.

Lomachenko has said that 140 is too high.
