Comments Thread For: Spence: Car Accident Was Wake-Up Call From God; Was Way Too Comfortable

Errol Spence Jr. is extremely thankful that injuries he sustained during an October car accident didn't ruin his boxing career. Now that he has had six months to reflect on what happened that frightening night in downtown Dallas, Spence has taken what happened to him as a sign to change his behavior outside of the ring. The unbeaten IBF/WBC welterweight champion says he has re-dedicated himself to training the way he prepared prior to knocking out Kell Brook to win the IBF 147-pound title in May 2017.

I don’t think Spence going to be the same fighter like before. At the level he’s in at the moment his future $$$ opponents are Pacquiao and Crawford could be too much for him. Got to see a tune up against a Ugas or Danny Garcia before Spence can prove me wrong

He didn't mention the alcohol abuse. He may return to close to what he was before the Brook victory, but will the abuse to his body work against him against someone like Crawford who is disciplined and dedicated to the sport? We'll see

That’s right buddy boy. Build the excuses in now. You’ll say you can’t make 147 anymore when it’s time to fight Crawford. Funny thing is Crawford might call your bluff and follow you to 154. You truly belong at 160.

I agree but I dont think ugas is a good tune up for anybody . Hes looked really good at welter and is a real spoiler . Iam not saying Spence would lose but if hes a step behind like I figure hes going to be his first fight back he should def go for a less active more stationary fighter like d garcia .

Keeping the hunger to be great is very hard too do year after year fight after fight, as soon as they become successful the silk sheets syndrome begins to stop hearing the 4am alarm bell. Errol is showing that he realizes how life is a deck of cards that can tumble over at any time, complacency will always bite you in the ass sooner or later.

This is why I admire the Mannys and Floyds of boxing they kept their desire to be great for their whole careers they have that special dedication that is so rare in people.

Imagine thats how he is really big in welterweigt squeezing himself to 147 and fighting smaller guys just to look great. Still almost lost to Porter and didnt take that much risk to KO a too small and hapless Garcia...
