Comments Thread For: Jacobs: Callum Smith Hasn't Truly Been Tested By Top-Notch, World-Level Fighter

The super middleweight championship match seemingly most makeable for Daniel Jacobs would be a shot at Callum's Smith's WBA 168-pound title. Brooklyn's Jacobs and England's Smith both are promoted by Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing. And now that Smith knows he won't get a lucrative showdown with Canelo Alvarez at any point in the foreseeable future, a well-known opponent Alvarez has beaten is interested in facing the Liverpool native

by inference Jacobs reckons he's a top notch fighter and perhaps he was at 160 but he's unproven at 168. Smith beat a very decent Groves. Apart from Froch, Groves didn't fight elite boxers as Jacobs did with Golovkin and Canelo. But I'm not sure how much I'd favour 2020 Jacobs over 2018 Groves.

Everyone is crapping on Smith because he should have lost against Ryder. I think Smith over-estimated Ryder and Ryder fought the fight of his life.

But one poor performance doesn't mean he was 'exposed'. Before we say we've seen the best of Smith I'd like to see more evidence of a poor fighter.

No Hearn wouldn’t and won’t make the fight. Hearn doesn’t put dazn fighters against other dazn fighters. He wants dazn fighters to face PBC and Top Rank fighters and bring them over to dazn with their fan bases. In order to do this he has his fighters ridicule those fighters (particularly if they are not Mexican American) and wage war in the press until they sign with Hearn. Hearn said it himself that he doesn’t like putting big Matchroom fighters against other big Matchroom fighters because ultimately someone’s going to get exposed and then Matchroom loses an investment without any new subscriptions for the deadzone

            He’s right

Even Groves is was finished when they fought. He knew he was retiring because he had one good arm left but took the final payday on the way out

Hearn has been pretty good to Jacobs. He'd probably make that fight.
