Comments Thread For: Teddy Atlas on Ryan Garcia: He Could Be The Next Canelo!

Hall of Famer and veteran trainer Teddy Atlas views lightweight contender Ryan Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) as potentially being the next superstar of the sport - and as big of a star as Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who is arguably the face of boxing in the United States.

If Garcia can win some big fights and continues to have exciting fights and score knockouts then I could def see him become one of the next cash cows and his following is young so it may breathe new life into the sport . I'll be rooting for Garcia to succeed . I wanna see him take a flush shot and fight someone elite before I predict it is going to happen . But the potential is there.

By age 17 Saul Alvarez had fought Miguel 'Titere' Vazquez twice . By 20, Canelo KO Carlos Baldomir, step your game up Rihanna.

First time I agree a bit with Atlas but what I find funny is that he mentions Garcia hasn’t been tested yet he doesn’t say that about Haney who has faced lesser comp than Ryan.

Gervontae beats Fonseca in 8 “ great win he proved he’s the real deal”

Ryan KOs Fosceca In 70 seconds “he’s hasn’t been tested yet”

Lol Crawford really needs to step his game up. His opposition plateaued ages ago. Like after Postol I was really high on him. That was his last real good threat. He has fought decent opponents, just no one really good like you’d expect from a top 5 P4P fighter.

So a overhyped cherrypicker who fights old fighters, uses every advantage and gets gifts from judges?

I’m sure we’ll see all that but if he keeps knocking theses guys stiff quickly who knows how long we’ll have to waite.
