How do you rate Larry Holmes as a heavyweight champ?

I got some time on my hands as do many of you. I'm going through some old footage and holy schit, I'll be damned. Larry was a bad boy.

His fights with Cooney, Spinks (Michael and Leon), destruction of Frazier, Wars with Norton, Shavers, Mercer, etc

I mean damn. Norton vs Holmes was Gatti vs Ward before Gatti vs Ward, only it was 15 rounds. In the 15th round, Holmes was out on his feet, only to bite down on his gum shield and come back and almost stop Norton before Norton was saved by the bell. True legendary warrior schit.

He had a 29 year career only being stopped by a prime Mike. I would've loved to have seen him head to head against Foreman.

How do you guys rank Holmes against the greats and how do you see a Foreman fight playing out?

Definitely better than the ones we have around now, I would have love to see a prime Holmes v Lewis (Prime).

I mean Holmes jab was insane!!! He would remain crisp and sharp throughout a 15 round fight. Crisp jabs and ripping shots to the body and head with max velocity for 15 rounds!!

Did Holmes take the test? Lol jk

I think prime Holmes was one of the best heavyweights. He was good in all ways with a great left jab. A prime Holmes would beat anyone fighting today in my opinion. Norton fought him even but he was much better than Norton against most opponents.

Top five; arguably third after Ali and Louis. I think he'd have beaten Foreman in a really good fight.

              Thanks for the input, Cliff.

Are you talking prime Foreman from the 70's? How do you see it actually playing out? Decision or stoppage

And why didn't that fight happen?

Foreman was retired a year before the Norton fight. Ships passing. When they were old, Foreman balked. I see a decision for Holmes. I think Holmes beats him in the 70s or 90s.
