Comments Thread For: McDermott Still Feel Strongly That He Beat Tyson Fury in 2009

John McDermott is still positive that he did enough to beat a young, up and coming, Tyson Fury, when they met for the first time in 2009. McDermott (28-8, 18 KOs), who had his last fight in 2013 with a win over Matt Skelton, lost a ten round decision to Fury when referee Terry O'Connor handed down the sole score of 98-92.

Maybe he did, he gave Tyson a tougher fight than Wilder, that's for sure.

John McD was a good fighter, it's a shame he came along before all the money started coming into the British HW scene.

Remember watching it live and being surprised the ref gave it to Fury. Shame for McD not to get the official win, Fury has improved so much since that it wouldn't prove anything about the fighter he is today

He definitely won that fight and he was robbed in the Danny Williams fight.

Having watched the fight again, yes, McDermott definitely deserved the decision in the first fight, just as Ryder deserved the win against Callum Smith, to make a recent comparison. Fury clearly won the rematch, but lost the first fight. Obviously Fury has improved a huge amount since then.

I am confused. He says that Fury can't hit very well but then was bed ridden for 3 days after the fight. Praises Fury's power but lack of hitting ability? Well he must have hit you well enough to put you in bed for 3 days. That or you were sleep deprived.

              McDermott, please calm down.

The Tyson Fury vs McDermott 1, I saw McDermott win that first, the second, we all know what happen. Anyway, this is water under the bridge, but at the same time I feel sad for McDermot and his struggling.

This is what I was saying to people complaining they thought Fury won the first Wilder fight - Fury was lucky to not get DQ'd against Cunningham and McDermott beat him. If you want to reverse that Wilder fight you need to reverse the times when Fury actually lost but got lucky.

What I remember from this fight is Gypsy-John telling McDermott that he whooped Tyson. A shame that the Gypsy-Bum never honestly avenged his loss, and like always, had to manipulate the gloves in their BBBofC forced rematch ( due to public outrage ) to gain the upper-hand on the fat club-fighter.

Yeah, from what I've heard like some of the judges lost their jobs due to that decision.
