Have to agree with Tarantino's picks.

Honourable mentions: Bleed for this, Hurricane.

The Fighter was exceptional, as was Million Dollar Baby in that they weren't as predictable as the Rocky franchise.

I would still like to see another good effort in putting together a no-holds-barred story about the life and career of Iron Mike.

'Cornerman' with Bruce Willis starring as “Cus” D’Amato has been reported as being in 'post-production'... then there is news Anthony Hopkins has signed on for a biopic titled 'Cus and Mike', so who knows?

the 1995 'Tyson' wasn't all that bad really, but if the right cast, a stand out director who has the clout to tell the story without making it 'safe' and appealing to all demographics, then this larger than life character might just be able to translate into a decent film.

I'll admit, I'm kinda surprised by his picks. Don't get me wrong, they're all great movies. But Tarantino is know to be such a movie geek, I thought there would be some older or more obscure titles in there. Requiem for a Heavyweight, Fat City, Somebody Up There Likes Me. I guess he really stuck to martial arts and skipped the boxing pictures.

It’s worth watching if only to make ur opinion. If u see it, I’d like to hear ur thoughts. I don’t want to debate it if u haven’t seen it. “Somebody up there likes me” is a decent one with Paul Newman. Champion with Kirk Douglas is good just for Douglas alone.

Ding! I’m totally with you being surprised with his selections. I didn’t figure they would be all the modern ones like I’d expect on a list from buzzfeed. I didn’t like Million Dollar baby. “Spoilers” Swanks character getting $1million for a fight 2004 as a challenger no less, is ridiculous. The most ridiculous ever is Rocky saying he’s fighting Drago for “No Money” lol. The truth would be all the money in the world and a $100ppv cost. If it was today the title would be crucified for the term “Baby” and how female fighters actually make “so little”. Course she has all these 1 round KOs?!! The illegal boxing stuff was corny. The Death punch I think set boxing back on film and did female boxing no favours either. I like Clint and Swank but they were both over the top. Freeman’s character helped ground it at least. Sadly a real boxing movie would be an eight hour series of negotiations and then the fight would fall through in the end.

I think Southpaw I had the best, most realistic boxing scenes I’ve ever seen.

I agree about it being a very solid boxing film, certainly miles ahead of Bleed For This and Hands of Stone. I was really surprised. I don't know why it doesn't get more praise.

Didn’t care for million dollar baby either.

But of course, white Hollywood would push the narrative that the best boxing film is about a white girl...lmao.
