Another thread on Deontay Wilder’s legs

I didn’t notice that Deontay Wilder’s legs were gone in the Fury rematch until after the first knockdown. But I’ve read a lot of people who say his legs looked shot before that point.

I don’t have a recording of the PPV broadcast (I would double check this if I did) but I remember Wilder getting his legs rubbed down prior to the Fury fight. I also remember thinking at the time, Emmanuel Stewart wouldn’t let that happen.

Prior to Hagler-Hearns, Hearns had a leg massage and Stewart lost it. I remember him talking about how a massage will kill your legs in an HBO legendary nights episode.

Since Coronavirus has slowed boxing news to a halt, I’ve been thinking about this leg massage a bit. That’s the last big fight for a while so it’s getting some extra attention from me.

Does anyone else remember this leg massage? Does anyone else think it might explain Wilder’s shot legs (if they were in fact gone before the first knockdown.)

To test this theory I had my wife massage my 3rd leg....when she was done, my leg was not the same for like 30 minutes.

Steward believed that 100%, I do recall. Don’t remember the massage on fight night. Not to say it didn’t happen, I just had a few people over so there were distractions. Plan on rewatching the fight soon. Never jump right back in.

        I will be serious though...
Wilder looked decent until he got dropped, then Fury did everything he could to make sure Wilder was not going to recover.....roughing him up, leaning on him all the time and tossing in some body shots. I don't believe the whole 40 pound suit excuse, I just don't think he was able to recoup after the knockdown.

He was fine up until he got hit upside the head by Fury

By "fine" I mean he was his usual clumsy, inept self looking for one big right hand. Then Fury smacked him in the head and that was the end of that

That's basically what I saw as well...watching live I noticed his legs were gone early...but when I rewatched it a little bit ago to really try and pin point when they went, I think it was when he got clipped with that right hand and dropped.

As you said, after that, Fury just methodically broke him down and roughed him up...very well done really.

Also Fury ate like 5 clean good right hands in the first 2 rounds, and just kind of walked through them or ate them up...I guess after fight 1 he knew what to expect power wise...but yeah idk if too many other guys can walk through those right hands from Wilder.

I usually hate you and your threads (in a way, I still do) but I noticed Wilder getting his legs massaged before the fight. Immediately, I thought about Hearns and Steward, but I didn't see Wilder contesting a leg massage in the locker room.

Maybe it was just a Tommy Hearns mental thing that impacted him on that particular night.

My thing is, if Wilder actually knows leg massages negatively impact your performance, then why go through with it?

Listen...if Wilder's really just a one-trick pony with a crushing right hand and hasn't done his research on the history of boxing, then shame on him. He DKSAB and that's a damn shame.

Fury knocked his legs out with the KD. Wilder recovered them by the 5th or so, but he was badly outclassed.

Too much massage like too much stretching will leave the muscle weak, because you are essentially removing the energy in the muscle to loosen them up. Go too far and you’ll lose too much energy. There was a study that showed that pre-workout stretching produced less power in muscles for the actual workout. Best way to warm up is just moving your body, not stretching, but flexing.
