When did the temple become the chin in boxing?

Ever since I started watching boxing - the temple shot has always been the most dangerous shot in boxing, hence referees are always vigilant about hitting any boxer from the side to the back of the head. Even the first day I picked up the gloves to box, the coaches told me two things: protect yourself at all times and keep a high guard to protect your temple with your chin down.

However, since Ruiz caught AJ with a perfect temple shot - the casuals who're now very outspoken in boxing and promoters who're into boxing politics have whimsically turned the temple into the chin. It's just laughable at this point.

There's a reason why a guy like GGG perfected the temple shot and a lot of his wins came from that shot. And there's hardly a boxer in history with a granite temple - they all always have their brains scrambled once they get hit there with a perfect shot.

It's just sad that there are so many utterly dumb commentators in boxing today. And the scariest part is that a lot of them have YouTube pages finessing a dumb audience who also don't know fcck all about the sport.

Temple shot is dangerous sure but Ward knows the most dangerous shot is the balls.

Rabbit punches are probably the worst. They are illegal and they don't get called much.

Yes. Refs tend to overlook it for some reason. I guess it's about not taking the fun out of the fight.

By "chin" in boxing, it means ones ability to take a punch, most likely to the head....it doesn't literally mean the chin lol

            You're a dummy.

Name one boxer in history that has taken a perfect temple shot and not folded.

Chin is called chin for a reason. If you have boxed, I don't need to explain the meaning of getting hit flush to you.

              This!

Having a good “Chin” in boxing doesn’t mean shots specifically to the chin only, it covers legal shots all over the head.

Fighters are not all equal in that aspect, temple shots can be very damaging but some guys can take them. Some guys are just built to walk through almost anything. Joshua and Wilder are not those guys.

Spoken like an idiot who has never boxed a day in his life. I'm sure you also look as dumb as the guy on your profile.

I think heavyweights taking shots to the temple will always do the wobbly leg dance. Heck Fury dropped like a bad habit against Cunningham. These are big, 200+lb men, I really don't think heavyweights have "bad chins" unless you're someone like Price.

There are average chins and great chins...average resilience and great resilience.
