Comments Thread For: Hearn Could See Many Boxers Leaving The Sport For Other Jobs

Promoter Eddie Hearn could easily see a scenario where many boxers will be forced to leave the sport - as a direct result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, the British Boxing Board of Control extended the suspension of all boxing events until May. The prior order had suspended everything until the end of March.

The guys at the top can ride this out.

They could even fight PPV in an empty room if they really wanted to, like theyre doing in the UFC.

All the guys though making like a few hundred bucks to 20k a fight, those guys are all suffering. I could see them giving up on boxing.

Even guys doing slightly better, lets say a prospect who was just at the point where he was ready to quit his day job to focus on boxing full time.... that guy is probably ***ed.

Say you got 50k a fight, well you give up half that or more to promoters, trainers and taxes. No fights for the next few months. Gyms closed and no sparring going on.

There will be a long term impact to the sport for an entire generation as everyone from sparring partners to club level journeymen have to leave the sport to pay the bills.

You might be pretty much correct.

But I think that the determined ones who love nothing else more than boxing will certainly come back after a period of some temporary jobs.

Hearn would go back to his day job selling cars, AJ selling marijuana, Whyte sells carribean meals from his flat, BJS mugging people’s trolleys...

Slick Eddie is correct on this one. Hopefully this virus burns itself out soon. Attending boxing matches is one of my passions. Such is life! Stay healthy everyone!
