Comments Thread For: Davison Feels The Pressure, More So Than Suit, Got To Wilder

Ben Davison, the former trainer of Tyson Fury, believes sheer mental pressure may have gotten to Deontay Wilder in last month's rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Wilder was dropped twice and then stopped by Fury in the seventh round. Fury walked away with the WBC heavyweight title.

Of course, it had nothing to do with the suit. It was a combination of pressure and lack of skills that led to the defeat.

For once I have to agree with Davison. I never saw Wilder so tense and tight before a fight. He was pacing back and forth in the dressing room and could not sit still. I believe he was more mentally drained than physically drained.

What he must learn to do is just sit back and relax and stop doing too much for the build up of the fight. Just focus on training. Don't try to help promote the fight. Let Fury do it this time since he is the champion.

Philosopher Ben is basically just repeating what he heard from Paulie on SiriusXM. That's all that Ben does. He reads something in those boxing books and then tries to impress fighters with it. Some fall for that (Taylor), others just use him as an obedient puppy so they don't get bored while playing in the gym (Fury, BJS).

          What did Paulie say?

It came down to skill level, Fury is a much better boxer and Boxing is the name of the game.

He didn’t want to do any presser, from that point you knew he was beaten mentally. He is mentally weak.

It was a combination of things... including what Ben mentioned... but the genesis of that pressure is, he finally realized his one punch and bully persona weren't going to work against a strong willed master boxer like Fury. Hopefully he drops most of that insane ego, starts LISTENING to trainers, and starts PERFORMING like an actual pro boxer. Otherwise fight 3 will be an even bigger embarrassment to him.

Leave off mate, dont you know Ben's a total genius? Remember how he told us how Anthony Yarde was a much more skillful fighter than Kovalev and how he'd likely win in about 9 rounds. That was some serious inside knowledge. I think i speak for everyone when I say "impressed".. 👍
