I tend to agree after seeing the fight the second time, but Hatton was badly rocked and looked like going down.

Does anyone remember the score of round 12 Delahoya/Quartey ?

no KD but that fight easily could have been stopped at one point.

I think a better scoring method is that more rounds are scored evenly when neither fighter does anything to distinguish themselves. 10-8 rounds are technically supposed to represent fouls or knockdowns but I have no problem with an INCREDIBLY dominant round being scored 10-8. But again 9-9 rounds, imo, should be used more frequently. I mean someone should have to win the round instead of simply being active or going forward.

Quartey was down on the 12th.

and yeah oscar landed the kind of flurry that stopped mayorga on quartey, but quartey recovered, and oscar gassed.

I agree, Hatton was badly hurt but he was not dominated for 3 minutes, the only time I can give someone a 10-8 round is if he dominates the whole 3 minutes, which is very rare.

I don't do it, but if I was going to, here are the few examples...

Trinidad vs. Mayorga round 5 where Trinidad would have literally killed any other opponent

Gatti vs. Mayweather round 6 where Mayweather just tore the hell out of him

I had Judah vs. Baldomir a draw but if you gotta have a winner, it should be Baldomir because he whooped Judah in the second half of the fight. I didn't score round 7 a 10-8 round in that one.

I agree with Amagnin in perhaps giving more 10-10 rounds and having them earn rounds instead of edging off rounds. However I never give 10-8 rounds because I think its a dis-service to the warrior in the ring.

He has the balls, courage and pride to not go down and get a rest from the beating just so that he doesn't lose a point. I wont take away an extra point for someone who does that. Lacy vs Calz is a good example, he had enough pride to stay on his feet (I believe his knockdown was a push) even though he was getting pounded from post to post and ding to ding. So for me its simple, if guy stays on his feet and doesn't get points deducted the lowest he'll get from me is 9.

Solid post. I am in total agreement after hearing your rationale for not giving 10-8 rounds.
