I usually make fun of Nerdman but some facts were good. Though the Spanish flu affected people because on the early 20th century people were at a peak of alcohol consumption. Boxers back then drank, blue collar stylee, smokers as well. Boxers of the past were true grit. Unfortunately heavy alcohol consumption along with smoking lead to pneumonia when the Spanish Flu came, with weakened immune systems. Prohibition came just a couple years later
Today’s era of boxers are different. But good looking out from Erdman for wanting the safe being for boxersComment

Medicine has come a long way since 1918.....Indoor plumbing. Hand sanitizer. The discovery of penicillin and manufacturing of tamiflu.
Mexico, which God knows is all-too familiar with the demise of civilizations due to disease, recognizes this and went forward with it's Viva Latino music festival this weekend. 150 THOUSAND fans. If they do not crumble over the next week due to a gathering of that magnitude, it is doubtful the entire world will collapse.

I can't believe that we're seeing case numbers and deaths worldwide eclipse those of the initial outbreak in China and governments shutting down everything and zero-IQ posters on here are STILL trying to make out that it's not a big deal. I swear to god, some of you people have a single braincell that bounces around the inside of your skulls like a DVD screensaver.Comment

And you are just an alpha male/tough guy wannabe, sitting behind a computer trashing a boxing writer who is being honest about the situation and telling it like it is.
Go back to WWE, pro boxing isn't for you.Comment

Interesting details in the article. Had no idea Mike Donovan died of the Spanish Flu. And cool shout-out to Tim Hocking who's one of the best twitter follows for random ass fights in random ass places.
To be fair I think most of the US promoters of note have announced no shows for some time. Sounds like NV won't do shows for a couple months minimum although it won't be official til March 25 at a meeting.Originally posted by D4thincarnationGreedy Boxing promoters are disgusting.
Cancel all boxing events.
That said as long as the disease hasn't spread to some countries I don't see an issue with those places doing fights, but yea in the countries where this is a problem, the US among them, they need to ban any events with crowds for at least a few months.
Randomly amazed at the r3tardation of some folks with this virus. The problem isn't the disease so much as are ability to handle those who are the worst impacted by the disease if too many ppl get sick at the same time. Read about some of the sh^t going on in Italy where they gotta make decisions on who gets put on ventilators cuz they are underequipped to handle all those who need help. The mortality rate their is higher than average due to that fact. We are underequipped just like them.Comment
