Yeah, hard to explain why a fight between two journeymen is held in such high regard. I feel Max and Jim did a good job here explaining it.

Gatti won titles at 130 and 140 and Ward was a solid pro. The fights are held in such high regard because of the action and savagery. Plus their styles meshed perfectly.

Thanks for sharing this clip - really nice takes on it. By chance, I just re-watched it about a week ago and yeah, it is just a stunning fight. Kellerman nailed it when he described their action as "cinematic" both in how they throw their punches, but also how they stagger. Visually, it's just high-octane all the way through.

I’m going to explain the Gatti Ward trilogy like this,

“mijo look, back in the early 2000s, there was an amazing trilogy between two fighters who stood toe to toe for 36 rounds and gave everyone some of the best ring action they had ever seen. Back and forth they went for every minute of every round. Each man fought his heart out to defeat his foe. Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera were among the pound for pound best of their time. And their fights were must see tv. For they displayed the skill and tenacity that fight fans desire. There were these other 2 guys Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti as well. Cool fights but at a much lower level of skill.”
