  • Comments Thread For: Helenius: I Didn't See Washington As A Threat; Let My Guard Down Early

Robert Helenius hopes an upset of Adam Kownacki on Saturday night can secure the heavyweight title shot that has long eluded him. Helenius hasn't allowed himself, however, to even consider the possibilities beyond boxing Kownacki in their main event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Finnish fighter has made that mistake prior to previous fights, and that lack of focus cost him dearly.

It’s the first time he has had a camp without nagging injuries in a while. And it’s the longest training camp he has ever had by two weeks. He looks ready for one last kick at the can.

Helenius at one time was a force

Then once that chin started getting tested it hasn’t stopped. At 37 he can’t offer very much excitement or not on his behalf anyways.

          Bye bye Helenius!

          I’m just saying

Excellent early analysis, and accurate. Kudos!

Many would have picked this wrong so I’m not surprised by your comments, hope you got it right yourself while trying to prove how bad my pick was.

Yea, I rubbed your nose in it a bit ... but only because so many of you "fans" forget that these fighters are real people trying hard to win. Anything can happen. It's never a done deal or guarantee that a fighter who trains seriously and professionally is gonna win or lose.

I have opinions on who will win and why, like anyone. But I never demean the opposition, there are no bums in boxing. And I always understand that an opponent may fight better than they ever have in a given fight. Fighters abilities are always changing ... getting better or, with age, worse.

Gotta love boxing! Like real-life fighting ... the guy you think is gonna lose MAY surprise you.
