  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: Costume Excuse Will Follow Wilder Like Haye's Toe Story

FRISCO, Texas Eddie Hearn conceded that Deontay Wilder's 40-plus-pound costume could've negatively impacted his performance in his rematch with Tyson Fury. The British promoter just doesn't understand why Wilder went public with that information. The former WBC heavyweight champion has faced such intense backlash from fans for claiming his outfit weakened his legs in his technical-knockout defeat to Fury, Hearn senses it's a stigma Wilder won't be able to escape.

True, but then again Wilder spent like 60k on that costume so we all know for a fact that he tested it before fight day. So if it was really that heavy he would've noticed while testing it.

Breland should have thrown the costume in the ring, not the towel.

I think it's pretty obvious he's clutching at anything that could resemble an excuse because of the brutal nature of taking his first loss. It's a huge shock to his ego that's firmly put him in denial.

After a few weeks when it all starts to sink in and he begins to make sense out of this he'll no doubt regret these knee jerk reactions/excuses.

In reality he needs some serious time out to recover mentally, physically and to plot a way back with a new team that has the ability to make the differences needed to adapt to every future opponent wanting to follow the Fury blueprint.

Anybody giving credence to the theory that Wilders legs were weakened by his costume need to see the state of his legs before and immediately after the first knockdown. He staggered back to his corner that round and they never recovered.

A short ring walk with the equivalent of a 7 year old girl on your back or an unseen big right hand to the ear from a 6 foot 9 inch 270lb giant?

Given the speed in which he hit the canvas, it's beyond madness to blame the costume.

Alot of shameful stories follow alot of fighters around.

                    -Tyson biting holyfields ear

                    -Duran's No Mas

-Bowe throwing his belt in the trash and ducking Lennox

                    -Margorito illegal have wraps

-Fury getting suspended for being a drug cheat and covering it up with the morbidly obese/coke binge/depression story

-Aj and his anxiety attacks/ I want 50mil..wait,on second thought..etc. etc.

And now Wilder with the costume.

All shameful excuses/stories. That's part of boxing.
