I agree. Particularly in the case of Ruddock. Those where really punishing fights. They proved that Tyson was a real fighter after Douglas had taken off Iron Mikes aura of invincibility and his intimidation factor. He proved there that he was able to take it and dish it out.

Those fights took ruddocks punch resistance. He had a good chin and recovery before all those rounds with tyson... and like 17 kos in a row

Lesser men would have folded. Lots of low blows elbows and bombs in those fights

Tyson was OK in the heart department but not 100 percent game in my opinion. When the going was a little rough he hung in there. When the going was very rough he did not in my opinion. I think he was a great fighter but the standard for gameness is very high for pro boxing champions and I don't think Tyson was as game as some. Three examples come to mind. In the Douglas loss he was counted out while crawling on the floor trying to put his mouth piece back in. A game boxer says *** the mouth piece, I have to beat the count or I lose. Someone else can get my mouth piece for me. In the second Holyfield fight the ref told Tyson if you bite him again you will be DQed. I few seconds later Tyson bit him again and was DQed and had found a way out of the fight. In the fight with Lewis I believe Tyson could have got to his feet and beat the count but he stayed down. If you think Tyson is as game as they come that is your opinion. I just cannot agree with that and neither do many others or you would not have felt the need to start this thread in his defense.

Holyfield bullied him for 2 fights and beat him down.

Yeah he took the easy way out in the 2nd Holyfield fight, he already lost 3 rounds and even though he was actually starting to do better he probably thought it was going to turn out like the 1st fight.

Luckily, Mike didn't face many guys capable of beating him.

Tyson had tough fights with Douglass, Tony Tucker fought to win and boxed very well and came to win, Razor Ruddock 2 times trading bombs , bone crusher smith tried to win the entire fight, was looking terrible vs Frans Botha towards the end of his career and pulled it out...Lewis had to beat the brakes off him to stop him

Tyson had a lot of heart and like all fighters you lose to the better man that day here is some proof for those who dont watch full fights

I absolutely agree with you man! It's just too bad this place has been ruined by the weak fanboys, racists and kids pretending to know everything that started watching boxing 2 years ago! Anyways Iron Mike had a lot of heart. Like you pointed out it's especially seen in 2 wars he hzf with Razor Ruddock and the fight that happened 14 years after his prime when he was taking Lewis' bombs for 8 rounds and having a 50lbs heavier man leaning on him for 8 rounds.

Refreshing. I jump into all these Mike threads and back up people like u all day. I had his game, rented his greatest hits. My dad a legit boxing fan, hoped Spinks would give Mike a challenge with sum real boxing skills. He instantly got frustrated when Spinks said he wasent afraid of Mikes power in the dressing room interview. We all know how that worked out. The day after the fight knowing my dad paid to see it closed circuit and didn’t get much fight for his money, I felt bad... I knew if Mike destroyed everyone that’s not good for boxing, u need a foil. I asked him if he thought there was anyone out there that could beat Mike Tyson? His eyes opened up a bit and he said “Well son there is this guy named Evander Holyfield...” When they finally fought he’d only take even odds on Holy winning because he didn’t want to ruin anyone’s night. Mike stood in there and took his punishment like a man vs Douglas, Evander, Lennox. But ironically mike had no plan once he got hit. Mike just cycles through his combos it’s all he can do. He looks to the ref to break the clinches. He mostly threw 1-2s. His right to the body, right uppercut was his best work, Evander took it. Mike never came back from behind. He’s done worse than the odds put on him. Only one of those most overrated fighters in the ring can lose in the “biggest upset” in boxing history. No one else did, it was Mike. His jab and head movement was more myth than anything, and he was often flat footed with those size 13.5s. He had a good chin for sure. Looked amazing beating a bag and dodging invisible punches. The cream rises to the top and those guys weren’t afraid of Mike like ignorant fans think. Lots of people want Mike to be better than he was. Watch all his fights. Mike was a great entertainer and prize fighter, his style was loved. But its to his embarrassment that kids today prolly think his nickname is “prime”.
