    Prospect Focus: Subriel Matias

Continuing a series of threads I started for discussion of upcoming global talent we move on from awkward Uzbek Israil Madrimov (https://www.boxingscene.com/forums/s...d.php?t=840569)
to Puerto Rico's better known intelligent engine of destruction Subriel 'Browny' Matias.

Possibly best known now for the tragedy surrounding his fight with Russia's Maxim Dadashev, Subriel has accumulated a staggering 15 straight KOs in the professional ranks and has to rank amongst the most promising prospects anywhere in the sport. His recent signing with PBC opens up a plethora of options as and when he moves up into the US talent rich WW division and it seems only a matter of time before he gets lined up for a title shot, although promotional divides may make that a problem at 140.

    SUBRIEL 'BROWNY' MATIAS

    15 (15) - 0 - 0

    https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/749669

A native of Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Subriel came to boxing at 12 years old finding in it a postive channel for his violent energy as so many others have.
Whilst Subriel did make something of a name for himself as a national level amateur, with over 100 fights and multiple Tournament wins he never really competed at international level despite remaining in the unpaid ranks till 24 years old citing a commitment to work and education.

    (Ring TV)

Since he debuted in the pro ranks back in 2015 however Subriel has looked phenomenal at every turn, his combination of intelligent stalking pressure, good combination punching and a ferocious finishing instinct having stopped every one of his 15 opponents except the unfortunate Dadashev (RIP champ) within 6 rounds.

Early fight footage is thin on the ground but his 2016 and 2017 destructions of countryman Ramon Melendez and Jeffery Fontanez in 2 rounds gave a taste of things to come:

More destruction ensued as Browny worked his way through a slew of journeymen and former prospects

His throat slit gesture and subsequently vicious annihilation of Peralta after Abraham starts getting a bit dirty shows a mean streak in Browny that we don't usually see... in fact typically he's admirably composed, but for me that controlled viciousness and the ability to turn it on is nothing but an assett ina fighter.

Probably the high point of Subriel's's career in Puerto comes with his methodical walkdown and brutalisation of former prospect Adrian Estrella in May '18 for which footage is unfortunately tricky to come by..

Probably both the high and low point of Browny's professional career to date is of course the Dadashev fight, fighting in the US for only the second time, the Dadashev fight was in some ways seen as his first true test and his real introduction to the US audience - the fight which was going to announce his presence as a serious contender... Which of course it did, but tragically not for all the reasons it was hoped. Nonethless the performance he put on against tough prospect Dadashev was every bit as dominant as his team most have hoped, and despite the horrible circumstances showed that Subriel is genuinely ready for the world level:

RIP Maxim Dadashev 1990 - 2019. Rest In Peace Champ.

    To be continued...

I feel bad for Mattias. I read he locked himself up in his apartment for a while after the Dadashev incident. Can't be easy to live with.

Aiming to do one every few days or when I can find the time and hopefully eventually compile 'em or link em into a masterthread that can be updated as these guys progress through their careers. Ima need some help though I reckon because it's gonna become a major undertaking. What I'm hoping though if I can get a few other posters involved it might be more doable - I know it's probably unrealistic but if I could maybe get 10 or 20 guys each looking after a couple of threads for their favourite prospects or by region or country or whatever, it should be much easier...

Oh yeah, and I'm absolutely open to doing requests if you gort a prospect you'd like to see a thread for or better still if you want to throw up a thread yourself for one of your favourite prospects...

I told Eddie Hearn to sign this kid when I saw Eddie back in November. And Eddie dropped the ball now PBC signed him. I'm glad someone signed him and I wish the kid the best.

Browny is an absolute beast but it's a probably bit premature to claim Taylor's avoiding him, Josh only won the WBSS like 4 months ago and apparently he's been busy changing teams since then. Besides, I ain't sure beating Dadashev and Eniz really catapults you to the top of the contender pile.

I think it's be a fkn fantastic fight but Taylor needs to be fighting Ramirez and Subriel needs to fight somone in the top 10 at 140. Besides Taylor signed with TR in early Jan and Subriel signed with PBC just at the start of this month... I hope their paths cross but you can't really lay the blame on Taylor for Browny signing over the street.

That's some useful circles you're moving in there my man, you work in the industry or you just ran into him at a fight or something?

Ooops. Erm... perhaps I can lean on one of the mods to correct my misspelling of Matias' name in the thread title... that wasn't really the look I was going for.
