Golovkin's problem is...

1) he did not take the fights that he needed to take, to become a superstar... he passed up some no-brainers

2) when he was presented with 4x showcase fights, he did not perform as expected

he was a HUGE favorite over Danny Jacobs

he was a HUGE favorite over Canelo, but he could not get his game going at all... no pipe-bursting pressure... no cutting off the ring... no trademark bodywork... no hunt-and-destroy...

in the Canelo rematch, what happened to all that "fight like a Mexican" talk?
