  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: Pressure on Joshua To KO Pulev - They Will Trade Punches

Eddie Hearn, promoter for IBF, WBA, WBO, IBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, admits there is pressure on his boxer to score a knockout victory in the upcoming mandatory clash with Kubrat Pulev. Joshua came in for a battle with Andy Ruiz in June 2019, which resulted in the British star getting dropped four times and stopped in seven.

Pulev is a very durable boxer but age has caught up with him.
He can be dangerous in the first 4 rounds.

Betting Joshua will punch if the openings are there but if Pulev is aggressive he will hug a lot.

I have to give it to Eddie...only he can prop up a washed-up fighter like Pulev and make it seem as if there is going to be a fight. There isn't...it will only be one-way demolition.

The only interesting thing that can happen during the fight is Pulev getting up in between rounds and kissing the chick with those round numbers. Usyk sounded somewhat exciting at first..but given his troubles and his performance, I am not sure if he's got any chance at the top HW division. He certainly doesn't look like the next Holyfield.

I don't know why they are delaying the Pulev fight till June. That means if AJ fights Pulev and Usyk this year, there is no exciting fight for him the entire year. I would have loved they did Pulev in March and Usyk in July, with one major fight at the end of the year. That could have been either of Fury/Wilder (preferably the winner) if a deal can be reached or a trilogy with Andy (if he shows some discipline) or even a showdown with a new fighter...Ortiz, Dubois, Joyce, etc. May Joshua wants some time off or something?

It depends on the size of the ring!

You say Usyk wouldn't be exciting then mention preferring Luis Ortiz.

Did you not see how terrible he looked in the wilder rematch? He was tottering about with zero pop on his shots and Wilder was never once threatened. Then boom dropped dead with a single shot.

I don't really ever want to see that old man fight again, he's washed

Unfortunately AJ has discovered how to win ala Klitschko
The rest of his career will be fighting from the outside to a safe points victory
The writing is on the wall

Yes, because Usyk has been having trouble in the HW division. Let him sort out his mess and get comfortable at HW first. We'll see if he is the next Holyfield or the next flop. He's been troubled with injuries and didn't look nearly as exciting in his last fight against Witherspoon or whoever it was as he did when he unified the Cruiserweight. Nor did he look as agile which was his strong point. Maybe with time, he will be able to carry that weight better.

Ortiz may have stamina issues in later rounds due to age but he was never an agile fighter, to begin with. And he sure did look a 100 times more comfortable in his last fight against Wilder than Usyk did in the HW fighting a nobody.
